Official starbucks vs licensed stores? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by myeyehurtsrn
Ok so I've been on this sub a while and sometimes I see things that seem really different and talking about policies like really enforced etc.. Here's some things that I thought of:

* Having to have a certain amount of people on for a shift and opening the store
etc..
* We have two people on a open and close, until the other one starts two and a
half hours later
* Also sometimes there's been instances where I've opened the store by myself,
because there's been a mix up with swapping shifts, it's not that big of a
deal I guess because we're not a super busy store or drive through
* Policy stuff??
* I just saw someone post about double batching fraps and that it wasn't
allowed? It's encouraged at my store it works so much quicker
* I remember someone came in and asked if we could heat up a cinnamon swirl,
I said something like "oh yeah it tastes so much better heated up! that's
what we all do", to which she told me that another starbucks doesn't let
them because they have a policy against putting stuff like that in the
turbochef
* How much money the store makes?
* I think if we make 10k a week then that's really good?
* Can't remember what we usually take on an average weekday or weekend but some
people on here have said their stores make like 6-8k a day!? Maybe because
they're drive thru's and we're not I guess?
* Do you take the starbucks card?
* We don't. The amount of times I have to tell customers that in a day ohh my
god.
* We accept the cinema's membership card we're a franchise of though, and the
customers get 10% off their starbucks though.
* Perks of your job?
* Do you guys get free drinks/food?
* Discounts? We get 40% off Starbucks, in addition to that free cinema tickets for us and a friend!
* Great because IMAX tickets can be expensive like £20pp!
* Wastage...? 👀
* I meannn if it's going out of date and in the bin like why shouldn't we take
it home. If they won't setup something where they donate the food or join a
something like Too Good To Go, then this food is going in the bin which is
just sad

For reference I work at a cinema franchise in the UK. This is such a random post and I'm not even sure if a lot of people will see it/respond but I'm genuinely so curious to hear what other people's experiences are like? I know EG garages in the UK have franchises, and in america you have Target Starbucks' (Tarbucks? haha) in addition to Barnes and Noble ones? Probably more. But whether you're a official starbucks or licensed store I'm so interested to hear about the difference in experiences!

There's so many more points I could add to this but I just can't think of. I'll probs edit them in when I think of them hahaha.

Sorry if formatting is weird lol

Grocery store Bux right next to a standalone Bux

-open and close is always solo. We run 3 player days- open, mid, close, with the kids overlapping the open and close and sometimes on busy days having all three meet in the middle around 12-2. Those are the most fun days, love them

-10% discount, random associate discounts (ie grande drink plus sandwich for $5)

-unionized

-more strict dress code; black collared shirts only, plus a black, gray or blue sweater optional. At least officially in the handbook; my grocery manager lets us slide as long as we're neat and clean

-can accept app and use stars. Can not reload your app

-we are expected to follow the same standards and recipes as a corporate Starbucks. My policy is you should have the same experience at my store as at any Corp Starbucks. That being said, I batch, man. I batch.

\- Wow 3 people days I didn't realise there'd be that little people on shifts! During overlaps we can have like 6 people on at once! It's quite hectic if it's like that though and that's including 2 mids, in addition to a barista + ssv for the open/close. Not been like that recently though because we were a lil understaffed lol. I get what you mean though that overlap when everyone meets in the middle is usually really nice, especially if it's a day when everyone is in a great mood!

\- Not sure if this is me being stupid, whether it's a difference between countries because I see a lot about unionizing starbucks meaning for better perks etc, but I feel like we get a lot of protection and perks from the cinema we're owned by I guess? Idk maybe it's just different in the uk than the us???

\- Ahhh the dress code. One of the best things. I get away with joggers that sooorta look like skinny jeans. I can wear a lot of my comfy sweatshirts, just no big logos/designs or crazy colours I guess. They're a bit more relaxed on the logos/designs rule though...

\- Ahh yes I can't lie to you I do sometimes maybe make drinks not strictly to the recipe hahaha oops. I mean for example I only learned the other day that an ice chai tea latte didn't have water in it, because the ice IS the water?! Made so much sense!! No one in my store knew that either I told all of them hahahah, even the trainer.

\- On that point I don't always make the strawberry fraps according to the recipe, I know this isn't great but I mean it tastes/looks better, and is less time consuming. I blend strawberry in the blender rather than manually swirling it, and then add strawberry syrup around the edge of the cup to make it look cool.

Now that I work at an official Starbucks I'm shook by the standard when I previously worked for a licensed store. My licensed store was on a college campus. Here was the major difference.

-You had a full hour to prep before opening the store
-No shift leaders on weekends, only weekdays (regular baristas were students)
-No starbucks training. You just learned as you go. Thankfully I had one shift who taught me everything an official stbux would teach you, and I taught the other students.
-No uber eats, or online mobile orders.
-Every morning the mop bucket had a swarm of gnats
-Every morning roaches of all ages and sizes would swarm out of and into the espresso machines. They would crawl around the wall throughout the day. There was nothing we could do about it, our superiors were aware of the issue.
-Our shift leaders wouldn't allow us to learn to make backups like iced coffee, mocha sauce, etc. We had to ask them to make it for us.
-the culture and drama was a big issue
-No tens, but 5 hr shifts would get you a 30 min break

Lots of issues lol

Oh we have a portable speaker that we play music out of too - honestly it's great! We're probably supposed to listen to the starbucks official cd though hahhah
