Grande nitro in a venti cup filled to the top with vanilla sweet cream, is it order-able? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by CapiTurtleDoesOllies
I get it all the time at my store but was wondering if it’s something I can actually order at another Starbucks.

FOR SOME REASON, it's forbidden at my store. I don't remember the reasoning, but it's been like that for about a year and a half. I used to get a grande nitro in a venti cup with extra sweet cream and extra sweet cream foam, and I used to recommend it to others! BUT ALAS.

I was told this was a Starbucks-wide thing but I can't verify.

If I had to make a guess, it's because the extra sweet cream would be way more than four ounces, which is the absolute maximum for "condiment" milk and cream.

Our store also cracked down on this recently. The only thing we're supposed to add over the grande line would be ice, whip, or other things that don't add a charge. Really depends on what store you go to I guess but it actually is policy, from what I've been told.

That makes sense!

I've also been told that we're not allowed to add ice to a nitro, buuuut no one's been able to come up with a reason why. It probably started as someone coaching another (regular cold brew gets ice; nitro doesn't) and kind of Telephone Gamed its way into "NO ICE IN NITRO EVER."

We've also been cracking down on filling "no ice" iced beverages to the top, which I'm 110% behind.

Also, ringing up the "water with fruit" or "water with juice and fruit" as a custom tea instead of a cup of water with inclusions.

this is weird bc we have a guy who regularly orders a nitro with ice? i know the standard recipe is no ice

Nitro CAN have ice. It isn't recommended because it somehow makes the cold brew cold enough to cause brain freeze when you have ice and nitro. Supposedly. But I've had customers swear they drink it regularly and have no issues.

The no ice drinks not filled to the top is a new one to me. Was that in a recent update?

Nope, that's always been policy. If someone asks for an iced drink with no ice, you measure out the ingredients as if you were going to put ice in it, then skip the ice step. You don't add extra product.

This ensures a (relatively) consistent taste, and I'm pretty sure that filling cups to the tippy top with no ice causes issues with inventory and waste percentages.
