partners at my store keep having to isolate and it’s starting to really annoy me (self.starbucksbaristas)

i feel like i shouldn’t be upset about people getting sick and having to isolate, but i can’t help it. we’ve had 9 people quit this month alone, 2 of those 9 being shifts (which leaves us with i believe 11 baristas with extremely limited availability and 3 shifts?!), and it’s hurting our store big time. every single week there’s at LEAST 3 people out on isolation. i can’t remember the last time our store went a full week without an isolation. my SM is putting all sorts of overtime in to help where she can, and borrowing partners when possible, but it just isn’t enough. i mean yeah i’d rather people stay home and not come to work sick. i just guess i wish people were more careful, especially right now since it’s peak “cold and flu” season. i live with 3 immunocompromised people and i really cannot afford to bring home any kind of virus, whether it’s covid, the flu, or a common cold. it could hospitalize them, or worse.

Noooot to build this up into a political argument, but it also doesn't help that so much of America is hellbent on pretending Covid doesn't even exist and those of us in retail have to be jammed inside with customers who may or may not be masked and may or may not be vaxxed.

and then not to make this *depressing* but yeah, those of us who are actually still afraid of the *global pandemic* are just SOL. There's nothing we can do at all except stay masked, don't touch your face, keep distance, and wash your hands frequently. Pay attention to your body and if you're starting to show any symptoms.

Your frustration is totally valid, not just in worrying about the risks but in the staffing issues! But unless you know for certain that they're being careless, try not to put too much blame on them specifically.

i’m for sure trying not to blame them specifically since some people just tend to get sick easily and the weather has been unpredictable, but it really is frustrating :(

It's super frustrating. And corporate is going to fight tooth and nail to keep the store open so you guys are stuck doing the work of like 2-4 people. It's exhausting!

you can be concerned for the virus and still be frustrated at the consequences. don’t feel guilty. i’m sure anyone else would feel the same.

HARD AGREE. Ppl need to self monitor and always wear their masks if they wanna work around ppl during a pandemic

Your SM needs to reduce your store hours before everyone else quits

our hours were reduced for a hot minute. we closed at 5 everyday instead of 830, but now we’re open until regular time. doesn’t make sense given the situation, i have a feeling it’s the DM making the calls

Wow your store seriously blows if 9 people quit in one month.
