Anyone else...? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by CSmeltz_13
Has anyone else experienced being held to a much higher standard than other baristas and even shifts at your store? I messed up yesterday, admitted to it, had a conversation with my SM, and handled it all the right way.

Had panda cause it was a long day and got food poisoning. Didn’t think to call in through between getting sick, I called in this morning when my alarm went off. SM called me an hour later just to tell me they were disappointed in me for calling off and basically said this “always happens”.

Like what? I’m sorry I got food poisoning?

In 6 months I’ve called off for 2 Covid issues and 2 other emergency situations, so I don’t understand how this is a common occurrence, or why my SM called me just to berate me.

yeah that used to be me. my SM called me her baby genius and eventually just started berating me for doing my job and having a life and stuff happening sometimes. i quit. 😂

That is literally how I feel right now? Yesterday I was basically told I can’t make any mistakes or have bad days cause then it allows my trainees to do the same. In other words - the trainees having bad attitudes is my fault. Like wtf??

yeah it’s not worth it. everyone is hiring and you can find someone who actually wants you to be there

If you’re being held to that higher standard it usually means they want to get you ready for promotion or they are just being jerks

Yeah definitely depends on the SM. Mine was constantly holding me to a higher standard but she was setting me up to fail. I realized this because she'd give different information to different people, or she'd tell me one thing specifically to make sure to do but then would let other SSVs get away with it, and so on. SMs, if they're good, will be consistent and uplifting, and won't sew dissention between partners.

The promotion thing is likely the main cause, as we have been talking about my interest in moving up since day one. But they have literally hired other SSV’s since I have been working there - which tells me that they are not all that interested in promoting me. Just using my skills and giving me just enough hope that I’ll work my butt off
