Been a barista for a year; consider myself a very tough nut to crack. Please take care of yourselves. This job is not worth being dehumanized over coffee. Sending positive vibes to anyone working this holiday season!

i had a customer argue with me earlier about how americanos aren’t supposed to be watery. i then asked him if he wanted a latte and he stated again that he wanted an americano. i made him a latte and told him it was an americano and he said “god, finally. you need more training if you don’t know what a simple americano is.”

I would have pulled out the recipe. No way in hell am I letting assholes get away with that, they'll just do it again

Here's an apron, you get on bar then.
Jeez some people.

My boss got an angry customer telling her he’d report her to corporate for charging him for heavy cream with his Americano. His claim was that we weren’t making the drink to the standard if we had to charge him for heavy cream.
Popperz4Brekkie1 points1y ago
3 ounces or more = charge. Any less than that, the standard is to hit “with cream” and it will be free. It’s in the manual

Some lady called me a liar when I told her we haven't had cinnamon dolce in almost a year. She told me she got it at our store two weeks ago 🤣

Okay, this wasn’t what made me cry today, but weirdly enough, a woman asked for a cinnamon dolce latte and when I explained that we haven’t had it for a year she shouted “what!! I just got it in San Antonio last week!!?”
cinanonymous10 points1y ago
we still have cinnamon dolce at my store yet a lot of stores around where i live don’t have any at all
ProfessionalRock79404 points1y ago
Ohhh that's weird. I'm in the north east US and everyone around us has been out forever...it's so weird how that shit happens. But either way she deff didn't get it at my store two weeks ago lol
Antique_Peace_63013 points1y ago
We have a regular who asks for a cinnamon dolce every time without fail. No matter how many times we tell her it is discontinued, she always ends the order by saying she’s emailed corporate about this many times. I ask if she’s gotten a response and the answer is always no lol
ProfessionalRock79401 points1y ago
Like what do you think you're going to accomplish?! The fact that she emails and expects immediate stock 🤣

I cried for the first time when I was a green bean on cafe bar on my third remake of someones caramel macchiato already 20 minutes behind (while the customer had already watched me mess up the first two) and my dumb ass made it upside down again. i realized immediately as i poured the shots in and i just lost it. thankfully he was really nice and said he would just take it but after that drink someone had to come take over for me and i cried in the mop sink.

I had an eerily similar experience when I was a green bean! They pulled me to be on dishes so I got to cool down a bit and didn’t end up crying. But now cafe bar gives me PTSD 🤪

That person sounds like a clown. Why wouldn’t you serve them at the register if they’re getting coffee tho? It’s how you’re supposed to do it.
mrcupcake183 points1y ago
Ugh I hate that! If it’s something like a cake pop or whatever and they are nice I will just hand it to them right then and there but I usually just motion them to the bar. So far no one has ever refused (thank god) but I’m prepared if they do lol

had a complete meltdown today when told i worked for a good amount of time with someone who tested positive. i have young family members (<13) in the icu on oxygen right now. the partner that tested positive was vaccinated. but since i’m vaccinated i’m not supposed to self isolate. :) having a grand old time hoping this congestion is not a sign
