Store Covid outbreak (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PM_your-pickles
Just today we got a text blast from our SM that we have all come into close contact with a partner who tested positive for Covid.

Company policy states that anyone who is vaccinated must still show up to work. However this policy was written before Omicron started doubling every two days. We have partners with immunocompromised relatives, elderly customers coming in all the time, and PLENTY of customers coming in with no masks to begin with.

The only thing management has done is give their condolences, dropped off a box of donuts, and left the store promptly.

How is this response appropriate? What will the company do when and if something goes wrong? Kind of feels like we just got thrown to the Covid wolves.

I’m pretty sure the “company policy” is the CDC guidance. I understand why your upset and if you just say your not feeling good you can be out of work too but don’t blame them for following the CDC. Get mad at the government for that

You can be mad at both. Starbucks has the power to take initiative

Also true! I'm thinking they're going to end up changing their policies asore info comes out about omicron. Guess we are just stuck in the middle right now 🤷🏼‍♂️

That's fair. I just needed to vent, I guess

shitty that the unvaccinated people get to have a little vacation because they made a bad decision

We just had a massive breakout at our store with covid and they decided to close the store for the rest of the week. But that's only because we didn't have enough coverage. So I feel you on that. I know that if we had enough people without symptoms we would have remained open.

Whether your vaxed or not, no one can force you to show up to work if your sick, especially now with the new variant. If you're sick, don't go to work. If you get in trouble, look/transfer for a new place or report it.

I’m sorry to hear that :( if this happened at my store I would be upset. I wouldn’t go in even though I’m fully vaccinated only because I have a family member in the hospital in very serious condition. If I ever gave them Covid I would never forgive myself :(

We are going through that now too. I have so many questions and think this policy has to be outdated now with the new variant

Quarantine or isolation is not needed from exposure alone for those that are vaccinated, per $1:

> Quarantine if you have been in close contact (within 6 feet of someone for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone who has COVID-19, unless you have been fully vaccinated. People who are fully vaccinated **do NOT** need to quarantine after contact with someone who had COVID-19 unless they have symptoms. However, fully vaccinated people should get tested 5-7 days after their exposure, even if they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until their test result is negative.

Omicron doesn’t change this. The Delta variant already evaded vaccines in terms of infection. The evidence suggests that Omicron is even more mild than Delta, and that vaccines still protect extremely well against severe disease. If every place had to shut down just from exposure to Omicron, the entire economy would be shut down again and people would have to be laid off. Almost nobody wants that.

Omicron spreads so fast that almost everyone is exposed all the time when around other people.
