Customer touching ALL toppings on bar(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Necessary_Low939
Yesterday I was making a family’s order and a customer was looking for something and started touching the things bar and maskless. I saw and didn’t say anything as I thought he was done and would stop and didn’t wanna mess up my flow. At first he said sugar and I already told him where. Then, I turned around and saw him touching all toppings now. I said you can’t do that! We’re in a pandemic, covid! You have to ask! He was startled and said whoa I’m sorry — as if I made a big deal. I said the sugar is RIGHT HERE. He said he was looking for cinnamon now. I handed to him. He said sorry again but I know he didn’t mean it. Covid or not, don’t hover over the bar, breathe one it, and touch anything you see. 😒

Don't let customers touch any of them. Everything was taken off of the condiment bars for a reason, customers can ask us to put them on, but the days of customers doing it themselves are over. Move them further away if necessary. I am always very pleasant, but the second a customer decides it's okay to cross over into what is clearly our area, that pleasantness drops. It's insane what people think is okay.

It’s hard. It’s a grab and go store so everything is kinda exposed to the customers.
Yes that’s why they need to be correct. Customers are not always right and they need to know!

I also wanna point out. We don’t have a condiment bar anymore either but we do put sugar out in the hand off area. Straws are kept behind us and people still take without asking that it kinda doesn’t bother me that much. Our mobile order is on the ledge and that’s where all the toppings are at. Can’t really close off anything

Last week I had a guy and his gf twisting their arms to reach under the plexiglass on the hand-off plane to get sugars. When I saw it (I was right there on bar) I said "Oh, no, I'll get it for you" and then did. They then tried to do it AGAIN as soon as I took a step away so I pulled the sugar boxes back and totally out of their reach while staring at them.
The gf looked at ME like I was the rude one. Bitch what do you think a plexi barrier is for, exactly????

What’s wrong with people… if I was you I would’ve said what are you doing. If you need some. ASK 😡

I agree with you, but I still blame corporate for that more than the customers. They shouldn’t be setting up our stores in a way that food safety is so dependent on each and every customer having common sense and a sense of responsibility. It’s like leaving your valuables in your car with the windows down. Sure, people should be good and not steal, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna trust the entire population to be honest and not swipe my stuff. About twelve years ago stores used to have glass walls around the bar to protect the beverage components from customers’ prying hands and from when they cough and sneeze in their direction. But then they decided that “customer connection” was more important than food safety, queue allowing customers to reach over and touch whatever they want with their unwashed germy hands.

Yes it’s their fault!!!!! Grrr people don’t have common sense at all. We live in a weird world. Honestly what customer connection no one has it anymore
jazzysoranio3 points1y ago
Yes, connecting customers’ dirty hands to other customers’ drinks 😂
Necessary_Low939 [OP]2 points1y ago
😂😂😂 they can connect with each other and tell each other their problems

I hope everything they touch got dumped. 1) Food safety 2) throwing things they touched in the trash while customers watch helps them learn
Necessary_Low939 [OP]0 points1y ago
They don’t learn and they touch things that have caps on

We were down to our last 20 stoppers yesterday and someone decided to reach over my bar and grab one, threw the whole plexi away right in front of him and the load of customers I had during peak. Don’t touch my shit lol

The other week a woman reached over, grabbed a handful of stoppers, put one in her drink, and put the others BACK. It was a full reach over MOP, a small ice bin, and a sink.
I'm done. I use 'customer service voice' in pretty much every situation but I've stopped. Once your body crosses the plane into the bar, I just flat out say "don't do that. I will get it for you if you ask." I'm ready to start slapping hands and kicking people out.

we have our sugars on a slant so if someone on the other side of the bar wants the white sugar they have to REACH over literally everything: all the other sugars, the syrups, and even the espresso machine. the amount of people who have reached over to grab some sugar is astounding. like how hard is it to just ask. i’ve come so close to just slapping their hand outta the way but i don’t get paid enough to deal with them, i just work there 🥱

OMGGGG LOOOLLL next time I should slap their hand too!!!! 😂😂😂
