am i still a green bean? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TrueFondue
i started working in the middle of august, and i was wondering when you guys felt like you were getting comfortable working at starbucks. i’m somewhat getting the hang of things now, i feel like. like memorizing drinks, and starting to get into the habit of sequencing. but a couple of the people i work with keep telling me how to do things a different way or just like general advice about being faster on bar… which kinda makes me still feel like i’m still being trained again :/

btw merry christmas and good luck to everyone that worked today!!

I think it all depends on how you progress. I was hired in August as well, becoming a trainer on the path to SSV. All my shifts call me a 'bartner' (bar partner) because I'm fast enough on bar to be put there solo most shifts. However, there's a coworker who was hired directly after me, and she js still trying to get down basic sequencing and recipes, so we'd consider her a green bean. It sounds like you're doing well, I would say you're at least not a VERY green bean

ah thank you! it sounds like you progressed really well. i know the people i’ve worked with say i’m one of the “good” new hires that came, so i know i’m progressing well

I also started mid August & am still being told tips on bar by other partners. According to my SM and SSVs, I have improved really fast & and my DM at one point said that he couldn’t even tell that i was new. There are a couple of partners that still act like i’m incompetent or freshly new green bean. It can get annoying, but honestly I just try to ignore it. It does hurt my ego, which may be a good thing… Idek

I got hired in august as well but have been out for probably a mont or two between Covid shutting down our store and other stuff, I’m still learning Ik bar because I always get stuck in drive for 8 hours a day sometimes and it kills me. But I finally am getting time on bar and I really enjoy it even though I still need help with some drinks

I started in June and feel 85% comfy as a barista now. I was hired with 5 new hires so there’s not a culture at my store of shaming new people bc it’s half the staff usually

I tell my partners that are new it takes a good 6 months to a year to become fully capable and to not worry if some things aren’t clicking right away. We are all there to help one another learn and get better. :)
