I've posted about not having a real store manager since the summer, but today I finally lost all my faith in the temporary store manager. We were open only 8-4 today, which was fine, but we had to nag him to get him to call our dm to let us close early on Christmas Eve. We would have been the only store in the district open our full time. His response to one of the shifts telling him people would like to be with their families because some celebrate Christmas on the 24th? "Well, you open late on Christmas."
Then for today, as the only store out of three in this suburban area open today, we had eight people scheduled all day with no more than 6 scheduled on the floor at the same time. We had over 40 people per half hour for a while and were busy from open to close. The beast of a co worker that was on cafe/mobile bar was amazing, but also only had like five minutes of breatherduring the whole day.
The reason for this mostly was because of the start of the day. I walk in and the shift is on the phone with the temp sm. She's telling him she is really not feeling well and just tried eating and can't taste. She's the only shift until 11. He says he doesn't know what he can do because he's opening his store (after telling me a month ago he never works holidays because our dm doesn't want him to because it is too expensive for him to? That's a whole nother thing). My shift is just looking for guidance because the covid coach told her to go home when she thought she could pass it. Sm wants her to try to take an at home test, shift has looked everywhere and everyone is out at the moment. She then explains, hey you have to have a shift to open the store. His response was oh well, we just don't open then. Like what? You're in charge of our store, give us some guidance or help us get a shift here or figure out someone we can borrow.
Thankfully the shift that was supposed to come in at 11 ended up having insomnia and saw the text and came in at 8:30 so we could send the other shift home.
This is also the sm that told one shift to suck it up and finish his shift when he was throwing up in the trashcan.
I'm just very done with the sm and really hope we get our new sm soon.
