This job has the loosest dress code of any fast food place arguably ever
dicksoutforpoppunk7 points1y ago
Don't let corporate see you calling Starbucks fast food lol
vandilor2 points1y ago
they treat it like fast food, so why not call it that 🤷 the obsession with drive times is bonkers
dicksoutforpoppunk2 points1y ago
Oh I absolutely agree, I was just poking fun at corporate's absolute reluctance to even consider Starbucks fast food
Sirmarchboy2254 points1y ago
I mean, name a place of work that doesn't have a dress code. And pretty much every fast food environment in the US to my knowledge bans getting your nails done because it's not food safe. I'm glad the dress code at starbucks is fairly more relaxed then other jobs I've had
Downtown03171 points1y ago
As far as I know, I have see McDonald’s, Burger King, almost all other fast food has long nails, or just a eyelids in general. And I worked as a server and there were long nails there too. I came to Starbucks and they were like “we will take your children if you have anything if your dead finger cells” like ok??!
Ordinary-Theory-82893 points1y ago
Then those places were violating food safety standard. This isn’t a Starbucks rule lol
Downtown03171 points1y ago
That’s what I’m sayin, Starbucks is the only place I’ve been where they actually care about it
Ordinary-Theory-82891 points1y ago
Everywhere I’ve ever worked has been pretty strict about it
Sirmarchboy222 points1y ago
Whether anyone policed it or made you cut your nails, it would have still been against their food standards.
coolsexysmartvirgo40 points1y ago
i wish we could at least have a protective clear coat bc this job is hard on the hands sometimes I’m constantly jabbing my fingers into things
Baileyjo6910 points1y ago
Pro tip: I have a matte top coat that I put on over clear nail polish. You literally can’t tell that I’m wearing anything, but it keeps my nails stronger and more protected.
kittenpickle11 points1y ago
That pro tip is not food safe though.
sungayray35 points1y ago
I think its just in case you drop a hot drink on yourself you are more protected then where there isn't any cloth there to keep you safe. But the dress code it the most lax one I've ever had compared to other jobs
vandilor1 points1y ago
you are not required to wear long pants or sleeves so
sungayray1 points1y ago
Oh. The location I worked at had an actual uniform for the food workers that required long sleeves and long pants. But when I looked at the Starbucks outfit guidelines it said thick long pants and a shirt
vandilor1 points1y ago
i’m not sure what guidelines you’re looking at but it sounds like they’re old. people are allowed to wear skirts and shorts and there is no mention of thickness
Lolindir9324 points1y ago
The clothes make us “look the part”. Trust me when I say that the dress code is a lot better now, as it used to be very restrictive!
joviante5 points1y ago
seriously. everyone at my store wears tshirts now.
ShadowsDemise422 points1y ago
wait, were we not allowed to in the past? couldn’t imagine working at SB without a tshirt
joviante1 points1y ago
look up starbucks look book
spacespecterr1 points1y ago
SO much better! remember the dress pants and polos they used to make us wear? phew.
HunterLost206222 points1y ago
I’m a shift and I will never say things about wearing wrong color ripped jeans backwards hats but if it’s anything health code I can’t let it slide nails are against health code work at SBUX or have nails you choose 😁
hecaete4710 points1y ago
Yeah this. I don’t understand the ppl always complaining about nails here. That one is a health code violation.
Necessary_Low93918 points1y ago
Clothes I get. It’s not a big deal but the nail thing? Nails need to be keep natural
coolsexysmartvirgo-2 points1y ago
just wondering, why is that about the nails? just like a coat of gel I feel like would be fine (no acrylics obv). but it’s not like we wear hair nets so I don’t get it
Takimara6 points1y ago
No, anything that is on the hands and wrists are usually the one thing that can potentially fall in the drink. The same reason the only adornment on your hands and wrists you’re allowed to wear is a simple wedding ring.
coolsexysmartvirgo1 points1y ago
That makes sense, I was just curious
Necessary_Low9394 points1y ago
U supposed to wear hairnets. As for nails even if it’s gel they can still chip, come off and fall in drinks.
coolsexysmartvirgo1 points1y ago
oh wtf I’ve never seen any sb baristas wearing hair nets and never went over it during training
yirium7 points1y ago
The laws are different in every state but most just require you to have your hair pulled back over your shoulders, not a hairnet
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
What state do u work at
mhgl17 points1y ago
You’re going to want to look into entrepreneurship.
rdagz_13 points1y ago
Lol, is this a serious question? Most places of employment have some sort of dress code.
drinkliquidclocks9 points1y ago
First job? Lol...
tittysprnklsz3 points1y ago
Starbucks doesn’t want nail polish chipping and falling into drinks.
-Zispy1 points1y ago
Having non ripped jeans and a regular t shirt isn’t that hard though..?

Why not just get a clear coat?
i_meanOK5 points1y ago
It's against health code.
chinksauces1 points1y ago
put on gloves
wear a clear coat
i_meanOK1 points1y ago
If you're willing to wear gloves while handling stickers that you need to *nicely* put on packages/cups just for some clear coat...I hope there are other reasons than vanity because that's just not worth it. (I totally understand some people need it for help resisting biting or other medical reasons I might be ignorant to)
drinkliquidclocks1 points1y ago
Maybe it depends on your state, Starbucks is the ONLY company I know who regularly enforce this. Every fast food restaurant I go to, every girl has 10 inch acrylics 😆
i_meanOK1 points1y ago
I'm in California. I see this too. It doesn't make it any less against health code.
