I wish I still liked my job.(self.starbucksbaristas)

This used to be something that I absolutely loved doing and I would look forward to working with great people and having fun making drinks and getting to know customers. Now I’m more tired than ever, deal with some insanely frustrating coworkers and customers, have no desire to be here anymore. It’s really sad how downhill it’s all gone in just a few years.

the burnout is real
Tiffyost12 points1y ago
The dealing with difficult customers is nothing. Dealing with certain difficult co/workers is frustrating.
Internal-Ad-88202 points1y ago
Exactly. With customers they'll go away eventually even if there are a lot of them, but coworkers are people you *have* to deal with and be around and stores are so small that there's no getting away from them so you have to stand your ground or else you'll get chewed up alive

I worked with the best crew ever last couple of days. Respectful people and just very nice. Nice and nice tones make for happy employees. Happy employees do better work. Happy employees don’t leave. Just saying.

I don’t like if my SM physically puts their hands on me to move me away. I get we may bump into one another. That’s totally cool. It happens. But to even gently put their hands on me to move me is not kosher.

sameeeeeeee :[
reginaldioz1 points1y ago
it’s just exhausting, we’re expected to do so much with little to no support! and all of the customers are assholes per usual
SyerenGM9 points1y ago
Yeah I loved the idea of starbucks, not the reality. They advertise it to new hires one way, but not the tragic mess that it actually is.

i’ve been here almost 8 months and the burnout is sooo real i’m sick of peoples shit but they’re remodeling my store soon and that means time off + an actually functioning store to come back to + raises

Customer is one thing but ur coworkers make or break the job. How about transferring? U kinda just have to brush off customers. I guess it’s easier for me because I don’t get that many difficult ones at night and if I’m right I can talk back.
canidieyet_5 points1y ago
even if you have the best coworkers ever, having a hundred of people yelling at you at once takes a toll on you. at some point you literally just can’t brush it off anymore
Necessary_Low9392 points1y ago
No I don’t let anyone yell at me, neither does my shifts let people yell at the baristas. It depends on ur store and team. However I feel like it depends on ur state. I’m from nyc and customers don’t really pull that shit here. Too busy for that. But then again I’m not in a tourist spot. I used to be in one where tourist throw money and I look them dead in the eye and throw their change/coins back.
canidieyet_3 points1y ago
I’m not in a tourist spot either. People are just grade A assholes where I live. Even if you don’t *let* them yell at you, that doesn’t mean they won’t try. Maybe it’s just me but I find it mentally exhausting to have to stop every damn customer I see from throwing a tantrum over something ridiculous
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
Sorry to here. If Starbucks just stop caring anymore u will see the change in the customers. Honestly u don’t see them pull this shit in Dunkin or peets because they don’t allow it

I’ve been at the same store for years and have such a connection with a good amount of people there. I’ve worked at other stores in my district and just haven’t felt that :/ Transferring would take away the only reason I’ve stayed so long tbh
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
But I thought u said the coworkers are frustrating. Frustrated in general or at customers? Two different things. I enjoy making drinks so I don’t care about anything els. If I’m on register then it’s a relax day for me. Usually I’m the support and do everything.
shiftyclub [OP]2 points1y ago
My stores dynamic is very complicated haha, we’re all very close which is can be a great thing, but also leads to some issues. We fight like siblings sometimes if that makes it make sense. Frustration comes from having call outs every day, people showing up late, not doing their jobs which holds us all back, that kinda stuff. I’m an SSV and often feel like the only one who cares about much which could be a fault on my part. It’s really a love hate relationship.
Necessary_Low9390 points1y ago
Oh lol. seems like u need ur own store. Apply for ASM 😃 everyone be calling out and late this day and age. And people are less hardworking than before

Hi um…. I just started working at Starbucks,.. is this a normal thing for a Starbucks employee? Should I look for another job further down the line?
venturealoha2 points1y ago
Yeah I was/am sort of in the same boat. The customers are just intolerable and then poor leadership at the top in my store was burning me out. I got a 2nd job, decreased my hours and changed from Morning to closing and it’s been a bit better.
