Utilize the partner guide when calling out. Partner should inform the manager or shift manager on duty (so call the store) if you are unable to make it in to work due to illness or personal emergency. Enough time in advance should be given to provide the manager time to find coverage (not your responsibility but it helps if you find it).
Your manager isn't allowed to consider your previous call out a no call no show if you called the store AND found coverage. You have sick time for a reason. As long as you are actually sick and not calling out for precautions, you are good.

What do you mean by “you want to play it safe”? Are you saying you want to call out because you’re worried about contracting COVID but you aren’t sick right now?

To be candid, calling out for one day isn’t going to make a difference at the rate this virus is spreading. The next day you are back you will be just as likely to be exposed. If you have more than a couple family members in your home as well, you are probably at even greater risk of exposure. There’s no avoiding it at this point.

If you want to avoid work because of COVID risk, then you should look into a personal leave of absence.
