The old dress code? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by CrispyJezus
I just recently started at Starbucks about 3 months ago, and many people were saying how the old dress code was so much stricter, etc. Can someone tell me about it? Example: things you weren’t allowed to wear that you are allowed to now?

you had to wear a collared shirt. acceptable pant color was black or khaki, like slacks. acceptable top colors were white, black, and tan/khaki. black shoes only. no other color or accents allowed.

ETA: no visible tattoos (until the maybe the last 8ish years??), no non-natural appearing hair color. no facial piercing/jewelry.

lmao right? gotta say i got away with a lot back then. velvet heart pattern pants, black and blacker pin striped pants, sheer blouse (layered of course), collared dresses, studded collar blouses, vintage dagger collars, creepers and mary janes. nothing to ever break dress code but enough to stand out and make my SM at the time hate me haha. she tried to enforce a “kitchen crocs only rule” once and i was like you think crocs are gonna kill my vibe?? try again, sister. I INVENTED CROCS.

This plus shirts had to be tucked in and if you had belt loops, you had to wear a black or brown belt. Can’t tell you how many times I cut my belt loops off in front my manager

i forgot about this!! i had so many pants with cut off loops 😂

No jewelry no nails no watches

that’s still a thing! apart from the single smooth wedding band.

Oh I meant to add on to the old dress code. Of course it’s still a thing but it doesn’t seem like anyone follows it. My store has teens getting their nails done 🙃 and of course the bracelets

my rule is that if these heauxs wanna get acrylics they have to wear gloves on my shift lmao

That’s a safety hazard, please try to tell them it’s not safe

Also you couldn't wear jeans. Had to be khaki/corduroy/ dress pants. Then they added black jeans to the policy, then black or dark denim only.

Oh and when they finally allowed shirts to be untucked, they said they couldn't go past your pockets or something like that.

Facial piercings and wild hair colors used to be banned, and almost all prints, and we couldn’t wear tshirts! It was gnarly.

I think we’re technically not even supposed to wear t shirts now unless they’re coffee gear and it just isn’t really enforced but I could be wrong🤷🏾‍♀️

No we can now there’s nothing in our dress code about tshirts
