hey fellow snow day here, and basically from what i heard is that if you call out, you won’t get paid, but if you come in or the store closes early then you get paid for your whole shift.
Example:
Store is open late and closes early (7am-12pm)
Julie calls out from 5am-10am
Sam calls out from 1pm-9:30pm
Elisa shows up for her 10am-4pm shift
Julie would NOT get paid for her shift because she COULD of worked.
Sam WOULD be paid because the store closes before they would have to work.
Elisa would be paid for the WHOLE shift and leave early because they showed up for their shift.
This is what i’ve heard, but i’m not entirely sure.

hazard pay aside which has been given a once over already, by and large, most SMs will try to remain open regardless of the potential risk to partners. one hopes this changes after the recent tragedies in edwardsville and mayfield, but if the store itself, the property, is not at risk, the company *simply does not care* if you are in danger off the clock. that's the harsh reality- even if you like your SM, they are under pressure from their bosses and their bosses to remain in operation regardless of the cost. if the pandemic didn't hammer this point home, i'm not certain what else will.
anecdotally, i can't count the sheer number of times we've had to remain open in hazardous weather conditions, and only once did a store of mine close- over ten years ago, in fact, because we refused to stay and closed it ourselves. we only avoided writeups because the weather conditions following were bad enough that we didn't see our SM for about two weeks and they forgot all about it.

If you show up and they send you home for closing early you get paid for what you worked. If it is less then 3 hours you get paid for 3 hours.
