I made it 2 solid years but I've finally given up. Cried a bit, but it seems I'm a burden based on how I've been treated. I admit I deal poorly (very) with stress, but snapping at me doesn't help. SM doesn't care and will likely not let me finish my 2 weeks out if history is a good indicator. On the upside I will likely be able to start going off my anti depressants after I stop working here.

Best of luck all!

You're definitely NOT a burden. Your store manager just doesn't know how to manage and is an irresponsible and negligent shit and you're definitely better off. There are many here including myself who have experienced a similar situation and they have found much happier and less stressful lives outside the Bux 💗

I appreciate the understanding because it has been made out to be totally my fault when it really isn't? Like I've been trying to I guess cope better with how insanely busy we are but it seems nobody is invested in supporting me coping with an environment that's just different (it's the noise and number of things going on, just.... The mornings were too much if I was running around) for me.

Regardless I'm gonna miss the group I worked with at night but I'm almost done with college and will be working with the Child Protection branch for my county and... Yeah, I have much better to do than make coffee for entitled suburbanites.

Your SM should be championing assuming the best in others. They are not doing their job well. Starbucks is very very stressful and the only way to make the days go by any quicker or easier is to be there for your partners. I’m glad you are getting out of that situation and best of luck in your future endeavors!

They... Yeah they don't do that. The amount of shit talking I hear (about the minors especially-- gross) is disheartening and the DM I know doesn't care. So thank you, I was worried this morning but really I wasn't the only one at fault and that's the best I can do. Thank you, you too!

I completely understand. Our SM isn’t the greatest to our partners, but as a shift I really try my best to put them first. You can only do what’s in your capability and as long as you’re bringing your best then that’s all that matters. Im glad to hear that you’re going into a field where you can help others develop and grow and feel safe though! You sound like a perfect fit. Just hang in there, and if they don’t put you on schedule for the rest of your time there, no sweat off your back.

Yeah definitely isn't your fault in the slightest. I think that the landscape of the business is changing and nobody in management really knows what's going on so they don't want to deal with people who make waves. The job itself is a huge culture shock for those who aren't used to that type of environment. For me, I have anxiety and depression, and every day was a huge sensory overload and things got to a point where my anti anxiety medication was rendered ineffective. Child protection is WAY more important, congratulations on your position and graduating soon! I hope that you will be successful and happy in the future, especially with a lot less stress LOL

Honestly I've noticed my meds haven't been as effective as they were when they hit their full therapeutic level on vacation while we got the new store layout put in (OH GOD IT HURTS SO MUCH BTW). Moreso our goon decided they wanted to be the "change leader" for several.projects (outside ordering, automated food ordering, etc.) And holy shit it just doesn't stop with all the bad ideas we need to be guinea pigs for.

But no the culture thing too. Our current SM is a company boy and our previous (who was a fucking ass, but I could tell he had a pulse lol) didn't take much of it seriously and I actually loved coming in, making shit for people, helping them find new stuff, etc. And I was fucking good at it, but the new folks are obsessed with drive through times at the cost of anything and I just can't get my brain to take this shit seriously. Anyway I went on a tangent but best of luck to you as well.

*nod*nod* Your meds were probably given a chance to breathe while on vacation so they could regain their strength lol. Oh god I'm afraid to know what they did to your store 😅 My old one was terrible, I'm convinced that whoever designed it was on crack omfg

Totally agreed with everything you've said. I have no idea why they decided that was the most important number to follow and fuck everything else. And really if a store has a bad SM it really trickles down and affects the store more than most people really understand. I have a small business management degree, just an associates, but they still taught me that the stuff I've seen at Starbucks definitely ain't right. Now I'm a print and marketing supervisor at my local Staples, making more than the highest amount I was making at Starbucks, and way less stressed and feeling like I am actually wanted and valued. Thank you so much and good luck 💖💖💖

I definitely think that stress and anxiety management are important skills. But the level of stress and anxiety you’re expected to manage at Starbucks is just miles beyond what we get paid for.

Oh they are, and I work on them in the gym, with a therapist, with meds, etc. If I'm put on bar, warming, etc I do better than nearly everyone. I've run 2 bars during the busy hours for several weekends no issue, and we're the busiest for our district, and nearly the busiest for the state. Point being I *know* how to handle a busy store, I can't handle when everyone else is really just sort of screaming and making random noise as a source of humor and then feeling like it's me vs. the rest of the group.

Pardon, went off a bit, but no the attitude they expect is comical. There's a local chain that's starting at 18, so above our *****generous***** raise that is taking half a year to go through, if I feel like another round of coming home sticky I might go with them.

be careful going off antidepressants cold turkey. definitely talk to your doc! best of luck <3
Strong_Challenge1363 [OP] 5 points 1y ago
Oh thank you, I thought the doc part was implied since even if it's a less intensive medication it still does some weird stuff. I legit started it only because of this job. Though I appreciate the concern!
