Dress Code Inspiration (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by angelic-hellhound
Is anyone able to show me examples of what you wear to work on a daily basis (for women)? I don’t have a lot of clothing within the dress code and am hopeful that someone here would be able to show me some example of what you normally wear? Even just something like clothing laid out on the floor or something like that would be super helpful! If it helps I’ve been looking over the dress code and just need ideas of what would be allowed within that if that makes sense.

I start my first day of training on January 3rd and don’t want to make it seem like I’m unprepared or anything! Thank you in advance whoever is able to help me out!

Typically I personally wear all black and my Dr. Martens. It gets dirty pretty quick on bar with drinks and syrup flying around but it is what it is. I wouldn't really recommend sweaters although that's most of what I wear because it can get hot pretty quickly and there's no escaping that. You can also check on the Starbucks Coffeegear for relatively cheap clothes within dress code regulations!

Thank you! I will definitely have to look into that! I may look into some docs as well or at least something similar until I can afford the actual ones
orsonvulture 11 points 1y ago
If I were you I probably wouldn't use real docs, the only reason I use mine is because I've had them over a decade and they were already a little trashed. Definitely looks nice but I couldn't justify spending 150 on em for syrup to get all over them haha. Maybe look into some nice knock offs? I'd recommend Madden Girl, I got a pair recently and they're super comfortable and about 100 dollars cheaper but still look and feel nice! Overall I wouldn't sweat it too much because the dress code is pretty lenient, if you don't have a lot to spend and don't want stuff from Coffeegear I'd also recommend Ross. I bought a LOT of the clothes I wear from there since they're cute to wear outside of work but also fit the dress code. Other than that good luck and I hope you enjoy training!

I bought docs for work and as long as you wipe them off after a shift and use the balm once a week they’re fine and they’re the best shoes I’ve ever worn
arlishia 2 points 1y ago
I had some docs and they got DESTROYED (please don't do it, sbux isn't worth it🥲). I ended up getting some all black Nike trainers and they're SUPER comfortable and just wipe clean:)

i wear leather converse boots, they aren’t SUPER slip resistant, but they’re leathery/waterproof fabric, and they do the job

Every day. All black and my docs. I found a few black and grey tie dye shirts that fit the code, I have lots of striped black and white shirts and some light sweaters. I roll the sleeves up when I get hot. I have medium wash jeans, black skinnies and black mom jeans.

i wear medium wash jeans, a black shirt, and black converse lol. my store isn’t strict abt the jeans color

i typically wear black. you’ll spill so many things on yourself and if you wear anything light colored you’ll see it all. right now since it’s been kind of cold, and im literally freezing all the time, i wear long sleeves usually in black, diff shades of grey, and beige. on warmer days i wear a flannel with a t-shirt in case i get hot/cold. just make sure the color is within dress code! mine is black and grey

in the summer i wear a tooooon of striped shirts. it’s literally all i own since starbucks is so weird about dresscode lol. they’re all black/white, grey/white, navy blue/white. of course plain tshirts.

as for pants i just stick to plain black jeans or dark blue. my store is okay with light blue jeans, but some don’t allow them (but i try not to wear them bc they get stained easily lol). for shoes i have black vans nonslips & a pair of doc marten knockoffs that i rotate

also! you can buy starbucks official shirts on coffee gear! (starbuckscoffeegear.com) that way if you have a hard time finding shirts for work, you can just get some off here :’) you can also get extra aprons which is pretty nice
angelic-hellhound [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Thank you! I will definitely look into getting some shirts from the gear site!

When I worked there I’d always wear jeans, my black docs, and a gray or black turtleneck, a black sweater, a gray cardigan with a dress code approved shirt underneath, etc. I had a few hood-less sweatshirts I’d wear that may or may not have had words on the front, but my apron covered it and nobody ever said anything to me. I was just cold and would’ve taken it off immediately if asked.

You will find shoes are very important especially during 7+ hours shifts, if you do not pick the right shoes you will be limping after work I promise

these are shoes I would not recommend wearing as they get VERY uncomfortable very fast. (I can personally attest to these because my coworkers all wear these and ALWAYS complain about their feet hurting.

Doc martins are TERRIBLE. unless you have previously broken them in do not where these to work you will hate your life. my coworker showed me her heels after work and they were literally BLEEDING.

Converse, no padding, no support

Vans, tiny bit more padding but still not great.

Flats, no support, fall off when you’re walking fast, no padding, usually give you blisters on your heels

Shoes that I do recommend are:

Air forces, these are what I wear and my feet never hurt and they’re easy to just throw in the washer and get all the syrup off. OR, walmart had an equally comfy off brand version that is probably a better and cheaper idea.

Nice athletic shoes. they don’t need to be nike or adidas or anything fancy, honestly just go to walmart and try on some of their generic brand tennis shoes and see if you can find a pair that’s comfortable.

my favorite pants to wear to work are black flared leggings, i get this really soft pair from walmart and they are technically in dress code! i usually wear it with a company given t-shirt or a sweater/ tank top and cardigan in muted/solid patterns. the only downside to sweaters is getting warm but they look so cute with flared leggings and it’s super comfy lol
angelic-hellhound [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Thank you! I’ll have to look into some cardigans and everything! Do you wear the leggings by themselves or are they underneath something else?
coolsexysmartvirgo 2 points 1y ago
Leggings are good but you have to cover your butt w a skirt, long shirt or sweater ;(
hermitcraber 2 points 1y ago
Stretchy skinny jeans are a savior for having to bend over to restock milks and such, vans are great because they have good tread (unlike converse) and then I would recommend a couple cheap t-shirts from Target so you won’t be wearing anything you care about too much

Funny story, a few of my partners thought I was goth because for the first couple months after I was hired, the only color I wore was black. In reality, I love colors, but black really hides all those coffee and mocha splashes you’ll get while on bar.

Today, you’re likely to catch me sporting loose fitting brown corduroy pants or black dress slacks and a dark colored baseball tee or turtle neck. I found that my typical day to day skinny jeans are just not comfy when getting on the ground to clean drains or stick out deep cavernous cabinets. Plus, if something spills on my leg and the sticky seeps through, it’s a sensory overload for me.

For shoes I wear Vans Made for the Makers with hella nice insoles from a brand I’ve used for years. Love how they stick to the floor, but let’s face it they don’t have great insoles out of the box.

Fridays I wear my red armed forces network shirt as I’m a vet and love to represent. Most stores allow red shirt Fridays (basically a support the troops day) so long as it’s a Starbucks branded shirt.

I wear jeans (mom or skinny, whatever i’m feelin that day) and i’ve really been liking tighter fitting mock neck sweaters like $1. they’re pretty warm but not too warm where you’ll be sweating all day. they’re really nice because they hug your body so they’re not moving around or bunching up weird under your apron. and then I wear my air forces bc they’re so comfy.

I always wear my black docs or some black tennis shoes I have. Black and Blue Jeans, leggings under skirts or dresses(usually black, brown, neutral colors), plaid dress pants for bottoms. For shirts I’ll wear any of the Starbucks shirts, plain black t shirts, button downs or polos, also neutral colors. I recommend having a nice cardigan or sweater handy too in case you’re put on window or you get cold in general!!

I wear all black and occasionally I wear skirts! I also wear bow hair ties and make my makeup very detailed or creative! I’m more of a goth person so I only wear black lmao
Jessicap1400 1 points 1y ago
I wear flannels, oversized button ups and tee shirts, my docs, long sleeve usually to avoid sticky arms lmao with like lace or ruffle trim or small details trying to still be cute 😭 i stick to earth tones mix and match and never have gotten in trouble!!
snowflakenecklace 1 points 1y ago
i don't want to do photos, but i can describe! i typically wore black skirts with black or grey leggings, and then most of my shirts were grey. when i first started, we couldn't wear tshirts, so i have some polo shirts and blouses. it's a lot easier with the new tshirt rule! a lot of my coworkers wore jeans or black pants and black shirts. and then i just did black sneakers all the time.
Blue-Jay27 1 points 1y ago
Black jeans and black/grey t-shirt. Jeans from a thrift store and shirt from a men's multipack bc if I'm gonna stain them anyway, I refuse to pay too much
bblonde_ish 1 points 1y ago
i wear black skinny jeans with my adidas (they arent non-slip but theyre comfy) and i have plain colored tshirts that i wear
potatopoisoning 1 points 1y ago
Black leggings and black or grey sweater/ oversized t-shirt depending on the season. I’ve pretty much accumulated a few sets of each that are just work clothes at this point and just rotate about 4-5 outfits.
femalehomosapien18 1 points 1y ago
I even have a video on my Instagram of outfit if the week to starbucks
femalehomosapien18 1 points 1y ago
If you look at my Instagram I just wear the same stuff I can DM you if you want cause I don’t wanna out it here
angelic-hellhound [OP] 1 points 1y ago

rosebudftw 1 points 1y ago
