Can the holiday season be over yet 😭(self.starbucksbaristas)

I was working on the 23rd and our store was extremely busy. We had only 3 people on the floor, one of them being a pre-closer. At any given moment there was always 15 or more people in the lobby. We powered through a lot of the orders and people thanked us for being extremely efficient with the resources we had. Unfortunately, due to the extremely high volume of customers, I was unable to brew pike even though I had prepared to around 30 minutes earlier. We ended up going through all the pike we had left and I needed to brew some. A guy orders a tall pike and I prepare the cup for him and start pouring. The coffee drips into the cup and I go up to the man and tell him, “It’s going to be a couple minutes as we don’t have anymore pik-“. He abruptly cuts me off by aggressively grabbing the $3 he had given me to pay for the coffee and storms out of the store. It took me a couple seconds to process what the hell just happened. I was already exhausted from this shift. I had also just finished finals week which had caused me to lose 2 pounds and my eyelashes were falling out, I was still trying to recover from the brutal 3 days of testing. This small interaction that I had almost caused me to break down in front of customers. Luckily I just powered through the emotions until closing. Unfortunately we closed at 8:00 and still had around 10 people in the store. We served 2 more people and then asked the rest to leave as it was already 8:15. Around 2 more people came in before we had a chance to lock the doors and just asked for water and a brownie. My shift supervisor took a deep breath and just said that we could give them the water since it was 15-20 minutes past our closing time. It was 8:30 when we finally locked our doors. 8:30 is usually the time we lock up the store and go home. With the pre-closer gone, it was only me and my shift supervisor cleaning the store. There was an insane amount of dishes that I was stuck cleaning while my supervisor cleaned everything else. Luckily our manager gave us permission to leave the front and back of house mopping to the opening shift. We eventually finished cleaning and it was 9:40. I got home at like 10:00 and just started crying. I find it funny how the smallest interactions make you feel the biggest emotions.

This job is rough. You have to learn to take it with a sense of humor. If that were me I would have shrugged because I don’t have to serve his coffee anymore and just let the customer behind him know I have to brew more coffee.
If customers are rude, it’s not your problem. Take deep breaths - we’ve been going through it. I’m sorry this happened to you.

In the 3 months that I’ve been working, I learn how to better deal with rude customers (even though I don’t encounter many). Thank you for your insight.

I really feel you on this one because the ones that order pike have the biggest attitudes and it’s so frustrating because they don’t understand
