I’ve only worked as a shift supervisor for a month and I’m over it. I got hired on as one and have never been a barista. No one shows up to work and the past several shifts it has been just me and one other person, 2 if we’re lucky. We’re a new store and are closing at 3 but they let us close at 2 and close the cafe because of staffing. Which, even then, is too late. How can we possibly do our job with 2 people in the whole store doing both bars and drivethru? Customers are not understanding at all and don’t care how short we are. I’ve applied to so many jobs just so I can get out. This is not how you treat employees. I’m not that kind of employee, but if I was I just wouldn’t show up again. But being the closing shift supervisor and having store and safe keys makes that difficult.

I would not recommend being hired in as a shift. There is so much that you have to know as a barista and as a shift you have to know that as well so you can coach them. Ontop of that you have all of your responsibilities to complete before your shift is over while giving out lunches and tens. It’s all about time management and planning ahead. You gotta find your Rhythm

If you have experience in this industry it’s really not that hard. Managing a team at a fast casual corporate chain is pretty much the same wherever you go.

You need to have a conversation with your manager. Idk how busy you are but we can only handle a 2 or 3 part play for a limited time before we need to close and that’s with MOP off and the cafe closed. Part of being the supervisor is knowing when it’s too much to handle and to make the call to close or turn things off.
