Michigan baristas (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by boobook69
I started working at Starbucks 14 years ago and lasted 3 years. I overslept one morning during time change (lost an hour of sleep), and was fired. I was young and juggling three jobs at the time. I don’t think it was completely warranted since I did call, apologize and come in (I was an hour late), just to be told to leave and that my employment was terminated. Anyway, fast forward to now and I’m working at a local coffee shop. I’m days away from turning 33 and am obviously way more reliable and responsible than I was from 19 to 22. I have a kid and a husband so my priorities are much different. My job does not offer any breaks or lunch which is really bothersome since we’re a high volume store. Does anyone have experience being fired from Starbucks and rehired? Also, what are Michigan baristas starting at pay wise? I got hired in at my job for $12 an hour, but my pay rate is listed as $11/hour on my first two checks I received today. I’ve only been there a month but I’m a tad frustrated and wondering if it’d be better to apply to be a partner again. Thanks guys.

i don’t have experience with rehire, but i do know that if you reapply again that your paycheck will most like start at $15 and hour. you’ll get a 10/15 min paid break, and a 30 min break off the clock if you’re working 5+ hours. but seeing your situation, im pretty sure you’ll be able to get rehired with no issues. wishing you all the best!

Could I ask what state you’re in? I’ve been with the company 3 years and I make 11.75...

MN here. I was hired in July at 13/hr, and it’ll be going up to 15 in a few months. 11.75 after 3 years???? rigged…

i am so done with this job lol😭

It also depends on where in MN you are. I’m near Minneapolis (but not in Mpls proper) so when Sbux increased wages we went to $15.75

I have seen many partners get hired back with no issues. Granted, we’re desperate and I think managers will take anyone at this point, but that would work in your favor haha.

Luckily I know the store manager so fingers crossed! Thanks :)

Quick question;
"My job does not offer breaks"
I was under the impression that breaks are federally required, is this not the case? (Sorry I know this is off topic)

This situation is really the most disheartening. It is law that employers must allow workers to have a 15 minute break when working 4 hours or longer, and a 15 minute break and 30 minute lunch when working 8 hours or longer. I am so hungry near the end of my shift that it is mentally distracting. Everyone acts like it’s totally normal and I just don’t understand.

Call partner resources to check if u got red flagged. If not u are rehire-able. I was a rehire

Glad you got back in. My store manager was fairly new when he fired me and wasn’t even promoted from within the company. He came from Target and had it out for me for some reason. I definitely did something punishable and perhaps worthy of termination, but I really hope he didn’t document me as unable to rehire. If he did it was totally a personal issue on his end. He only worked for the company for a short time before moving on.
