What’s up with mobile orders placing their order and 30 seconds later pulling up to the drive thru and expecting it to be ready?(self.starbucksbaristas)

Customers will legit place a mobile order and not one minute later be at the drive thru asking for it. I work at a high volume store and mobile order bar can be 5-15 mins backed up at any given time throughout the day! The new DPM app makes it easier to see that they literally placed it seconds before pulling up, in which case we politely remind them that it typically takes about 5 mins to make their order. Why do they get their order before the person who’s been waiting in the cafe having placed their order minutes ago? In what world does it take one minute to heat up your breakfast and make your drinks ??? Drive bar is different than mobile bar. It would just be easier for them to tell me their order at drive thru. Today I actually had a customer pull up to the drive they order point, ask for a minute to look over the menu, and then proceed to place a mobile order and ask for it. Like you’re LITERALLY HERE! Just tell me the order. When we’re busy and understaffed there is no one on DPM so it’s even more annoying. Is this a thing at other locations?

This!!! One of our regulars does this every time she comes to our store, and her order ALWAYS includes 6-9 food items, most of which are warmed items. When she comes through the drive thru to pick it up she always adds a drink onto the order and it’s like, we just received the order why not just put that into your mobile order too. She annoys all of us

“We JUST got that order & will begin it in the order it was received. If it’s not ready by the time you get to the window, I’ll have you pull forward and wait.”

customers do the same at my store too, it's obnoxious 😒 I'll be on drive or dto && be like oh we JUST got your order, so it might not be ready at the window bc you JUST placed it. if there's enough partners on the floor, I'll tell them to move up && someone will bring it out to them. I've purposely let 3 cars pass them before running out their things lolz

I've been seeing this a lot recently.
"Hi, I'm *so-and-so here for my mobile order" "Hi *so-and-so*, I don't see your order anywhere, what time did you place it?" "Oh, I just placed it right now!" 😑

The thing is that the app literally tells them that it’ll be 5-10 mins more or less depending on how busy the store is. Even when we tell them they’ll have to wait, they happily oblige even if it’ll hold up the DT line, they don’t care.

The other day we tried explaining to a customer the the printer only shows one drink at a time. She kept asking why we weren’t seeing her drink yet. It’s because the printer only prints one drink at a time and hers hasn’t come up yet. But why isn’t it showing hers yet? She ordered on her phone?
Trying to explain to customers how things work is impossible sometimes if it’s not what they want to hear.

I swear people think mobiles just appear out of thin air as soon as they are placed

Yep. We had one yesterday that came in to pick it up before she had finished placing it. She was telling us she was about to place the order. We had her pull around
