Availability as a Minor (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ek420g
Hey, partners! I’m trying to figure out if there is any magical way I haven’t heard of in order to work before 7am as a minor! I’ve been a partner for a year and a half now and will be 18 in August, but with school I can’t work after 10:30am, and it seems a little stupid to work 3.5 hours. I’d like to avoid closing shifts on weekdays as much as possible, as I participate in a lot of extracurriculars at school too! My availability had been a lot more free due to Covid effecting school, but now things are (semi) normal. I’m aiming for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, and then I always close Sunday nights. Also, I’m located in NC if that helps at all!

All of this is entirely dependent on your state's labour laws, and legally Starbucks cannot just circumvent those laws lol if the state says you can't work before 7am then you cannot work before 7am.

You're still young - focus on enjoying the time you have before they no longer have to worry about labour laws and can schedule you whenever they want

in NC minors can work after 5am, but my sm said Starbucks across the board doesn’t allow minors to work before 7am. i’ve been a partner for about a year and a half now so this is old news, i just wasn’t sure if i could work around it in anyway as i’m trying to save up to move out, and need 20 hours a week for ASU as well.

The labor laws won't allow work before 6:30, the sbux rule allows enough leeway that if you clock in early, the law isn't broken so there isn't away around the schedule until you turn 18.
