Can you LEGALLY work at ANOTHER Coffee shop?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MemesandSpeech
One of my coworkers told me she works at Dunkin in the A.m and Does SB at P.M. **(She got hired by Dunkin FIRST)** One of the first things I have been told is that **you can't work at another coffee shop or you will be fired (Non-rehirable).** Is that true or just some nonsense?
Honestly, I've been thinking about getting a second job (Probably around the A.M) But only coffee shops can fit my schedule since they be opening early in New York City.

partner handbook says you’re not allowed to work for a competitor’s store because of conflict of interest . she should’ve asked her DM before she got hired

i’m looking to work at a licensed store . but i had to ask permission first because also there was a big chance i could get in trouble if i don’t tell anyone . i’m currently allowed to work as long as i don’t plan to become a manger or a district manager yay !

Yes that’s actually true if Starbucks finds out she’s fired on spot.. if Dunkin finds out she’s fired on spot if they both find out well she has no job now
MemesandSpeech [OP]18 points1y ago
That's just nuts :/ Like I understand it's a conflict but people also be working etc jobs to accommodate themselves (Paying rent) :/

I agree but it’s competition as they see it they want you to be loyal to them an they see themselves better then the other but clearly Starbucks is way better in every aspect

true. Some of the benefits are splendid! It's the work environment/ coworker / customers at time that get to me -\_-

Sounds like the better solution to this problem is higher wages and steady hours. Not honestly unenforceable non compete contracts.
The real problem is SB can't prove her a complete Job, so she needs two.

Legally? Sure. It'd also be perfectly legal for Starbucks to fire you on the spot. Your manager or district manager would have to make that call based on the partner handbook. It's not illegal to break company policy, just may get you fired.

I was told by an old SM of mine only a year and a half ago that the handbook changed and it was allowed. I would check that and see. Some SMs are stingy and would rather keep you all to themselves.
