Half of us are out with covid. And this is how our regulars treat us. By calling us lazy and entitled.(reddit.com)

oh the irony of starbucks customers calling US lazy and entitled. but considering how many HCMT we’ve been selling lately it’s no wonder they don’t understand the concept of not coming into a starbucks when you’re sick
north_canadian_ice91 points1y ago
These Marens and Karens dehumanize & traumatize the wait staff & retail workers they encounter.
Starbucks baristas have it worst given they get the A+ Hillary Clinton wannabees who know every rule in the book to get their way.
You guys deserve $40 an hour if you work in the beltway, for real lol.
kaefeen22 points1y ago
THIS!!!!!
jazzysoranio254 points1y ago
Did you comment: “we’re hiring! Apply now so you can teach us how not to be lazy!”
medusas-garden [OP]126 points1y ago
I left a couple comments correcting people on how much we actually get paid ($12.50, not $15) just stating facts bc I didn’t wanna get in trouble just in case
jazzysoranio63 points1y ago
Maybe just say “we’re hiring! Apply now!” Wouldn’t be quite as passive-aggressive. Lol
megs128820 points1y ago
We make 15.97 but only because our county requires 15 an hour min. It’s still not enough
lover_of_pancakes7 points1y ago
Also fucking hell even $15/hr is only like $32k/year. That's barely livable at best. Insanity that you're defending a $5k/year difference to these people. Makes me nauseous.

Pretty sure it's illegal to fire someone for talking about their pay. No one else from the company can disclose YOUR pay because it's YOUR info (it'd be like handing out your address). But you can tell whoever you want.
coffeesparklez27 points1y ago
That would be insanely illegal. Tell everyone your pay rate.
ElijahLordoftheWoods18 points1y ago
It’s literally illegal to bar employees from talking about wages. Don’t spread misinformation like this, it’s dangerous.
somerandomdude4221-1 points1y ago
I did t fucking know y'all don't gotta flame me
the-cats-meouch18 points1y ago
that’s illegal lol
swollemolle-10 points1y ago
No its not
Cafe_Ninja7 points1y ago
I think it's just frowned upon
ElijahLordoftheWoods2 points1y ago
It shouldn’t be, talk about y’all’s rates, make sure everyone gets a fair wage
philosopher_cat_lady32 points1y ago
Every time I make that joke to dumbass customers who talk about how understaffed my store is, of course they're repulsed at the thought of working at our store. It's like, dude, we only work here \*because we've got no better option\*
jazzysoranio19 points1y ago
Oh I don’t joke. I make it awkwardly serious. 😂
medusas-garden [OP]214 points1y ago
Thankfully there were a couple people defending us and telling people that we had a covid outbreak but those comments didn’t get much attention. OP is a regular we see every single day - he gets a venti iced mocha extra shot no whip and a bacon Gouda. We all collectively decided to decaf him for a week.
imeanitpeanut100 points1y ago
Just for a week? I would put him on a permanent caffeine ban.
jordanshaw895 points1y ago
I definitely may or may not have done that to someone at my old store before it closed, dude didn’t have caffeine for moooonths! 😈
Sdee1234100 points1y ago
Dont f with the people that make your food🤷♀️
megs128826 points1y ago
Decaf him for life.
mxs42358 points1y ago
Looks like he’s getting iced chocolate milk 👌👌 doesn’t even deserve decaf.
drinkliquidclocks131 points1y ago
"they pay well" -some old bitch who's never worked for this type of wage since before the recession
Lol this is just how America is. So fucking sick. This literally fills me with physical rage.
garciajen9841 points1y ago
I was literally thinking this too. Like if Starbucks paid well I’d be able to be my own house rn huh but no I can barely pay my own rent.
medusas-garden [OP]35 points1y ago
Baristas get paid 50 cents above minimum wage at my store. Total bullshit.
PompadourPrincess4 points1y ago
I made 2 cents above minimum when I was there
Ordinary-Theory-8289109 points1y ago
These people are so fuckimg dumb. It couldn’t possibly have ANYTHING to do with that whole coranvirus thing that has been smoking forcing people to stay home for 10 days at a time.
FairProfessional097 points1y ago
They’re so out of touch with the service industry that they don’t even realize that we as the baristas aren’t the ones choosing to close our stores... It’s a mix of partners getting covid or other sicknesses and thus having to stay home, plus the manager’s say of whether to restrict store hours due to the understaffing from having people out sick.
Very-_-Disappointing61 points1y ago
Lazy baristas don’t want to make coffee and mediocre food that I could very easily and quickly make myself. Kids these days amiright /s
New_Consequence_518454 points1y ago
It's the "excellent pay" bit that bothers me the most. It's not even average these days
medusas-garden [OP]25 points1y ago
Baristas at my store get paid 50 cents above minimum wage. I’d say that the pay only starts to get good at the shift level but even then it’s still low.
whatisprofound19 points1y ago
Shift here. Not doing great. Gonna be 1000% fucked if/when student loan payments resume. And mine aren't even that bad - but the extra 200 a month bill WILL put me out. Extra hourly wage doesn't mean shit if you can count on hours. I get between 17 and 40 a week. How the fuck can you plan with that?
jordanshaw892 points1y ago
Another shift here, seconded. One more surprise and I’m drowning out over here. Thinking about getting a full time job, it’ll likely pay slightly less hourly but in the end I need a steady check
Very-_-Disappointing14 points1y ago
There are many jobs in my area that are also considered “unskilled labor” that pay the exact same or more and are presumably a less stressful environment. Starbucks isn’t even competitive anymore. They just pay what they can get away with in every market.
strangeyeena13 points1y ago
You need $19 minimum in my city to cover basics (rent, utility, gas, food). I make $15.50 and would not be able to make it on my own. On top of that, not a single person is employed full time at my store. Expect for the managers. It’s so fucking sad.
the-cats-meouch7 points1y ago
ah yes, that excellent pay that covers rent and one meal a day, doesn’t get better than this!
New_Consequence_51848 points1y ago
You payed enough for rent??? /s
FfierceLaw37 points1y ago
Who’s entitled? “it’s so hard to find good help these days, I can’t be expected to make my own coffee!”
fuckthisshit____34 points1y ago
“Sell a million dollars A-day but can’t find employees” LOL oh wait so a global corporation can’t find anyone to take that mouthwatering $8-15/hour in exchange for getting shit on by customers like you at work every day? SoOoO cOnFuSiNg
glittergoddess100228 points1y ago
Y’all think Starbucks workers are so lazy, then you go on and work there.
Or maybe just make your damn coffee in your damn home—or does that take too much effort?
ossarylark27 points1y ago
Id love to see anyone try 30 minutes of solo bar-through and tell me that "we are lazy" to my face.
doodlebug7289813 points1y ago
Regular customer here. For real, tho, I “worked from home” at my local Starbucks a couple mornings in a row recently and I was absolutely FLOORED at the amount of work you guys do. Even during “slow” times, they never once slowed down or were able to stop working. The closest thing to a break one girl got was that she had to go around to all the customers inside to let them know she was about to lock the doors because one of the partners had to leave early for a family emergency. They were going to strict “drive thru only” except for those of us that were already inside.
I could not believe the WORK it takes to work at Starbucks!
izxbellix25 points1y ago
it’s always the regulars that turn sour over the smallest stuff.
garciajen9834 points1y ago
Oh yes. We had to turn mobile orders off because it was me and 2 other partner for 4 hours during our night rush. One of our regulars ended up complaining to corporate, had our mobiles turned back. That same customer complained to corporate again saying it was ridiculous how long she had to wait for her drink. 🙄
CS388319 points1y ago
Fuck our customers, I swear so many of them are entitled as hell and unappreciative. Starbucks has helped with this though by breeding the mindset that they have
squishezzz5 points1y ago
Fr fuck these people. I agree starbucks does nothing but foster this entitled behavior
Unable_Web43432 points1y ago
I absolutely love my job but I’ll be damned if I actually give a shit about any of the customers. They are the utmost despicable entitled assholes
xoMisaa16 points1y ago
i feel like corporate WANTS us to feel dehumanized at this point… was going on to my dad last week about how the company has the potential to fully staff stores but chooses not to for profit which he then brought up the CEO of Boeing (the company that builds planes for airlines) stating “profit is more important” or something along the lines of that and my mind immediately went to Sbux corporate… especially with the pandemic sbux managed to find a way to make even more money despite the economic status of the world basically it’s sad bc corporate pushes us to work harder but doesn’t come in and help us when we need it…. former CEO of Boeing would push his employees but also be there for them and work WITH them and they thrived…. Kevin Johnson wouldn’t touch the floor of any store even if it was life or death.
luvduvbunny16 points1y ago
COVID or not, these people would never work in a place like Starbucks. They know that the environment is bad due to poor management and entitled customers. If they really want Starbucks that badly, then they can easily fill out an application and join us!
I would like to see these entitled customers juggle 2 jobs, college, and a family without complaining or calling out.
changbinsomnia16 points1y ago
one customer left a review on my store, they were mad we were all out of our food.. as if its our fault the truck didnt come
FreeeeezeYourBraain7 points1y ago
would love to know what has been going on with shipping lately because......
changbinsomnia3 points1y ago
right? i understand theres a shortage of workers but being out of ALL bakery/food & then having to make a run to meijers to grab milk? it gets scary, tense & everyone gets stressed :(
ItzBoogieMan15 points1y ago
Lazy? Yeah okay if you’re so confident in doing a better job than us, fill out a a fucking application then bitch. The people complaining about Starbucks closing are the same asshats that come to Starbucks with CoViD asking for a medicine ball.
Easteuroblondie13 points1y ago
Someone should tell them that supplemental unemployment ended months ago
DannyDTR2 points1y ago
Exactly. So not only are they entitled but incredible stupid. It’s funny that people keep referencing something that’s been over.
TransportationDull6413 points1y ago
To be fair sbux could probably get more employees if corporate raised salaries to 15usd already
Chinaintown20 points1y ago
They need to raise it to 25! Shit why get mad at overworked underpaid employees?? Swear people are foolish and cowards, come at the true enemy!
TransportationDull648 points1y ago
It's trained labor and high pressure, that would be fair wage
TJW35113 points1y ago
I’m stuck at home rn with Covid and all I can think about is how guilty I feel that I’m leaving my coworkers understaffed. People like this are usually the ones who have never worked in food service/customer service in their lives
shutupsav11 points1y ago
The entitlement is insane. They know they can make coffee at home right? But WE’RE lazy???
Heythere_Ambear10 points1y ago
Last week I was the only SSV left because everyone was out on Covid leave. We were only open the 8 hours I was working. To everyone who was complaining, I was just honest, we have people out sick and because of Covid protocol they have to be out 10 days. So dumb that we have to feel like we need to tiptoe around the word “Covid” at work. The entire world has had to deal with this for how long already. It shouldn’t be a giant secret when we need to close early 🤦🏼♀️
Vader_Boi10 points1y ago
Says the people who would rather pay for overpriced coffee and food over making the shit themselves
fookyall10 points1y ago
I love how the last comment ran straight towards the point but then still was completely wrong. Yes, those “benefits” did end, so why do you think we’re “choosing to stay home”? Tf? We’re not bitch, WE’RE SICK. Go get your medicine ball elsewhere, Karen.
Assiqtaq9 points1y ago
"They pay well" NO, they USED to pay well. They used to pay above the pay scale for similar work, and you got tips on top of that. That is NO LONGER TRUE! I hate when people take the words that were said about a situation a few years ago and assume that has never changed. They paid above minimum when I was hired in 2007, they start you at minimum now. I assume there are areas where they pay below minimum because they can, because you get tips, though I don't actually know this for a fact. But I do know for a fact that they are now a super cheap company.
Chinaintown9 points1y ago
It's because of these entitled bastards, baristas are fed up and tired!
promisestorm9 points1y ago
these people are sooo deluded lmfao .
coldcatsoup9 points1y ago
They mention Missouri in the comments. Is your store, Original OP's store in Missouri as well?
( I am in SW MO, just curious).
medusas-garden [OP]5 points1y ago
Close, I live in central illinois
Additional-Chance-368 points1y ago
They don’t even fucking see us as people they see us as robots like are you kidding me?? They’re all brats
We're literally slaves to these people. If we drop dead from our labor, they don't care.
underthewintersun7 points1y ago
They call baristas lazy when they themselves can’t be bothered to take ten steps out of their car to come inside for their 50 Frappuccinos.
sh3nan1gans_7 points1y ago
This is literally my location rn. We have about 5-6 with covid and opened at 7 today and closed at 230 cuz we were just that short staffed. Yesterday for us was awful. We had about 5 people on the floor and it was swamped w mobile/delivery orders
Js_On_My_Yeet7 points1y ago
Imagine getting mad over coffee lmao

The covid surge is affecting everyone. No one is untouched right now. I no longer work for the bux. I wanna know this Maren's real name. I'll comment publicly and put them in their place. I may even use some gender neutral pronouns and make them really clutch their pearls.
rudebii5 points1y ago
“Lazy,” bitch please, don a green apron for awhile and tell me how lazy partners truly are.
EnvironmentSad15485 points1y ago
Covid broke out so much at our store that it had to close until Monday…
Prudent_Preparation15 points1y ago
fuck them 😥
iqueefkief4 points1y ago
these people are such out of touch morons
angelgrl4204 points1y ago
“There’s no more federal money so I don’t get why they’re not working” it’s almost as if the narrative you’ve made up in your mind isn’t true and people actually just don’t want to continue working in shitty conditions where their health is always at risk!
Ok-Responsibility7354 points1y ago
I am and almost 7 year Partner and I personally am out sick with Covid (Omicron) and thought I was going to lose the love of my life because he is so much sicker tham I am. I watched him projectile vomit bright red blood. Screw these entitled, pathetic, rude assholes. Drive 2 more blocks and find another Starbucks store, you assholes.
GuySmileyIncognito4 points1y ago
Every time a customer complained about how few people were working and how long the wait was, I told them that we were hiring and they were free to apply. Nobody took up the offer. I guess nobody wants to work! Assholes
Hopeful_Mix_9583 points1y ago
People like this are the reason I no longer work retail or food industry lol.
medusas-garden [OP]3 points1y ago
I’m working on leaving right now. The customers used to be a big thing that kept me here but now they make me sick.
grayandclouded3 points1y ago
“lazy and entitled”… and i’m sure all these people look up to the “self-made” successes like Bezos and Gates. i’m done with society lol
SweetnessOS3 points1y ago
People who literally can’t make his/her own coffee calling people who have to hustle an entire shift lazy 😀😀😀. Crazy.
megs12883 points1y ago
My store is going down quick. We have succumbed to the fact that we’re going to get it
francescugh3 points1y ago
it’s stuff like this that makes me so angry. our company has created this level of entitlement.
thisisnotlorena3 points1y ago
Hmmm, such a hard worker couldn’t be bothered to make his own coffee? Interesting
the-cats-meouch3 points1y ago
they bitch when we close, they cry when we stay open and are slow because we’re understaffed, they send threats when we close cafe. there’s no way to win with these losers. i always see people saying ‘starbucks employees complain more than anyone else, how hard can their job be’ they’ll literally never get it until they’ve worked there
reclusivegiraffe3 points1y ago
i thought the same thing before reading your title... our store has been closing at 2 all week because of covid isolation. i hate these entitled assholes

ACleverDoggo2 points1y ago
"And they pay well," who the fuck thinks Starbucks pays WELL???
I_Boomer2 points1y ago
Paying frontline workers shit wages really backfired. The only thing left for the rich to do is to raise the minimum wage and then have inflation go up even higher. Oh...wait. I think the rich will be okay. /s
TanksALatte2 points1y ago
The Karens and Keemstars of the world just want to complain to an audience. They don’t even care to check in on the human beings who have to decide to do what’s best for themselves or their loved ones. I would love to see them get by on Starbucks wages for a year.
DarkBlueSunshine2 points1y ago
Ah yes, imagine me coming into work when I had positive covid and working on bar to make your drinks 🤧 sure you'd love that 👌
HelpMePleaseName2 points1y ago
Don't blot out their names
Acedre1231 points1y ago
I have customers saying stuff like this to my face today at work. Its sadly very common. Most people dont give a shit about retail workers and view themselves as superior human beings and think we are robots in a way. Best advice is to try and do your best to ignore them and avoid looking at comment sections like these. Find those moments where one customer was nice to you and focus on that memory, its what helps me drown out all the bad ones lol.
Kikisjewelryservice1 points1y ago
Some old lady said those things to me too when she asked why our cafe wasn’t open. She was like “how come there’s not enough people? but don’t they pay well? And don’t they pay for your college? And you have benefits! Kids just don’t wanna work huh”. I just smiled and handed her drink so she could leave.

You mean, half are out with positive COVID tests. Omicron is a cold. Possibly a bad cold for some. (A professional tennis player tested positive 210 times and had no symptoms.)
Also, see Joe Rogan’s recent interview with Dr. Robert Malone on Spotify.

Some are estimating 400,000 deaths from vaccine adverse reactions.
New data from Columbia University researchers:
Comparing our age-stratified VFRs with published age-stratified coronavirus infection fatality rates (IFR) suggests the risks of COVID vaccines and boosters outweigh the benefits in children, young adults and older adults with low occupational risk or previous coronavirus exposure. We discuss implications for public health policies related to boosters, school and workplace mandates, and the urgent need to identify, develop and disseminate diagnostics and treatments for life-altering vaccine injuries.
