Be happy! You got promoted because your boss knew you were right for the role!
My advice as a 2 1/2 yea shift is to not be scared to ask questions. Adjusting takes time, and you’re not expected to know everything right away. Also, some baristas who were your friends might have a hard time getting used to you being in charge. Know that that is normal! They will learn to respect you as leader as long as you continue to respect them.
Also enjoy it! Remember, it’s just coffee ❤️

it’s a good sign you’re scared, honestly. the worst shifts are the ones who act like they can do no wrong. Make sure to listen to your team, be present with them, and remember you’re basically a glorified barista. That sounds mean but it keeps me grounded haha, I’ve seen way too many shifts go power mad. Like, it’s just coffee. Focus more on the people and you’ll be fine. And! The more you focus on your baristas, the more they’ll help you achieve success in other areas, like admin. Good luck!

Congratulations on your promotion! I was hired in as a SSV as someone with 20 plus years of management experience. I’ve had to learn the barista basics while learning how to lead my partners. I think this gave me a unique perspective. So my advice for you is to lead the way you like to be lead yourself. Observe what other SSVs do that you like and don’t like. Try to hold on to the good and try not to do the bad. I find that the best shifts at my store lead with confidence and don’t take back talk on their decisions. Try to keep the partners happy but let them know you are going to make the best decisions based on the team. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or to admit when you’ve messed up. The fact that you’re asking this shows me that you’re going to be great! Good luck!
