Asked to find my own coverage… (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by galadrielgal23
I had to call in this morning.

I work very part time. Im older, this is just a weekend gig for me. I called in this morning due to an injury and was told to call the other stores partners at 7 am on a holiday weekend to find my own coverage………………..

Wow.

Say you looked and then go rest 😂

Straight up this.

Nope. Heal well from a fellow older partner

How would you politely tell your manager to F off in such a situation?
FfierceLaw 36 points 1y ago
I’d say “ok,” hang up up and not give it another thought
CapriSunEnema 6 points 1y ago
Exactly what I do

Isn’t that a manger’s job… to manage…?
sheep_heavenly 35 points 1y ago
A shocking number don't feel that way, sadly!

What a ridiculous employment environment some of us are in.

My SM once tried to limit the amount of times we could contact her. She set up a schedule and told us that during certain days of the week we absolutely couldn’t contact her. So if something happens basically figure it out. IMAGINE…

Best of luck recovering. If anyone gives you a hard time, tell them to turn to page 27 of the partner guide where it says finding coverage for stuff like illness, injury, & emergency is not your concern. Like, you can try and find coverage if you’re feeling nice, but it’s not an obligation.

Hello fellow oldie, I’m also very part time. I’d just say okay and then leave it at that lol

Essentially what I did. I called one person. 😀🤷🏼‍♀️

Check your state regulations for next time—this may not be legal. Hope you feel better soon!

My partner had a very similar situation. Called in, and not even the manager, but a shift supervisor was being an ass about finding coverage and saying they had to when they called out... ridiculous
verdeuce 2 points 1y ago
The partner guide definitely states that if you call out sick it is not your responsibility to find coverage.
Frosty-Shelter7372 2 points 1y ago
I always just say I did and then don’t.
rlogranite 2 points 1y ago
Not necessary if you have sick time
overturned23 1 points 1y ago
that’s the stores job not yours

It also states that if you know in advance that you cannot make your shift, it is your responsibility to find coverage. - Current SM.
breadcat3 5 points 1y ago
It doesn’t sound like this person knew in advance they were going to get injured tho
galadrielgal23 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Yeah, I couldn’t really plan my fall….I also didn’t think my SM would appreciate me calling them in the middle of the night while I was waiting at the ER.

Not for nonplanned absences (if sick or have an injury) then it's the ssv or sm who needs to find coverage.
TheRosyEgoist 7 points 1y ago
Yes this is true! I wasn’t thinking of that
Ordinary-Theory-8289 11 points 1y ago
Bruh this is so completely 100% wrong. It’s quite clearly written that partners are not responsible for finding their own coverage when calling in sick. Recovering from an injury would be considered the use of protected sick timeb

Call of completely as opposed to….half way calling off? What does that mean lol
DunderMifflin-ThisIs 2 points 1y ago
How does one call off completely other than saying they have an injury and can’t work? The partner did say they can’t work because of an injury and the manager still told them to find coverage.
