scary encounter for the day(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ghetto-skooter
So we had a 24 drink delivery :,)
The delivery guy gets here and BEGS me to help me take it to his car… wtf im the ssv and kindly told him I cannot step away from the floor neither can another barista. you can’t park your car outside and take multiple trips?
is my anxiety too high or is that right?? bc uh im not getting kidnapped and my parnters aren’t either

I believe you did the right thing, you stood by your decision. The delivery guy could've asked a friend or family member beforehand to help him on this delivery if he truly needed the extra hand.

always better to be safe than sorry

We have an ubereats driver that calls and tries to have us bring it out to her car. Too make it more efficient for her.

“It’s $20 extra for this service.”

I mean, I’ve definitely helped people out to their cars before BUT only when I felt absolutely safe doing so. Every store I’ve worked at has had large front windows looking at the parking lot so everyone would be able to see anything suspicious. But if you have even the slightest hesitation then don’t do it. It’s better to be safe than sorry. And it’s completely understandable that you can’t leave the floor. I mean, you’re getting paid to run the store not do the delivery guy’s job. I like to be helpful wherever I can, but he’s getting paid to be the delivery driver, walking stuff out to his car is part of his job. Taking care of the store is yours.

we are located in the mall with absolute no sight of the outside! glad i chose the right option

Dude wtf no as a former barista and current gig worker you should not be doing extra labor to help him lmao he’s getting paid for that and he should have reasonably set his expectations to know that he may have to make multiple trips on occasion
Spinelise2 points1y ago
Huh. We've always helped take orders to the car if it's not too slammed, at all my stores except for the mall ones.
ghetto-skooter [OP]1 points1y ago
we are in a mall
Spinelise2 points1y ago
Ahhh that makes a LOT more sense. I worked in a mall for a bit too and just realized no one ever asked us to help take their drinks out- I'd probably feel uncomfortable as well in this case.
ghetto-skooter [OP]2 points1y ago
i was so uncomfortable😅 he literally BEGGED me to help him and we have no sight of the outside of our store so i was like.. uhhh no sorry not sorry
Spinelise1 points1y ago
Yeah, no, definitely not! That's way too far. It's different when it's a car just outside the door and in a public area. Maaaaaybe we would have done it only if multiple baristas helped carry things, like safety in numbers? But Idk. If the driver truly meant well tho then I feel bad he had to hold all that 😅

Idk if you made a typo but you CAN’T make multiple trips!? How is the delivery guy expected to carry 24 drinks in one go? I understand not helping but what else can he do?
brattneybiscuit8 points1y ago
They meant it as a question like why don’t they just do it
JennCanadaa7 points1y ago
Oops. Sorry OP
ghetto-skooter [OP]6 points1y ago
lol as previously stated, was a typo! suppose to be a question
