Apparently our store doesn't have high enough food waste to make it worth the time of food donation organizations to collect. When I was the closing shift, I would make bags of food that went out, put baristas names on them, casually placed them in the back fridge, and told the baristas it was their responsibility to "throw out their bag", aka take it home, since we couldn't just give food out.

I was homeless when I started at my store and noone knew except one of my shifts. When we closed together she would "pull" everything that was waste and do the same. Sometimes that'd be what we'd eat for a few days.. when my SM found out my situation, he just smiled and went on. I will forever be thankful for those pb&j boxes and cake pops. I'm thankful now to be where I am. And to Becca and Jules and Tony, thank you.

Corporate considers this “stealing” and I’ve been told I could lose my job if product isn’t marked out and disposed of correctly. I get around that by loudly declaring that all of these pastries are trash and then pretending I don’t see anything.

We used to donate to a ‘food bank’. Or so we thought. One morning the lady picking up complained that we didn’t donate enough bagels for everyone in their meeting that day.

Our food bank won’t take it because they consider it expired if we won’t serve it… so the employees take most of the stuff home.

My store doesn't. We simply just don't throw out enough food. It'd be a time-consuming logistical challenge to donate, like, one panini and two muffins from a couple days ago.

The last time this happened at our store I took all the food and distributed it at my apartment complex. It made people really happy. Everything can be refrozen and thawed whenever.

Well I wish my store could have shut down. Cause at this point we have literally nothing : out of almost all breakfast and panini, understaffed due to 8-9 partners out for positive with Covid, no strawberry puree, no medicine balls (no jade citrus, no peach tranquility, no honey blend), no heavy so can’t make whip or sweetcream, no crunch topping, no fruit inclusion, no vanilla, no classic, no peppermint, no chestnut praline, no hazelnut, no oatmilk, no cinnamon pwd. I BEG THEM TO CLOSE THE STORE AT THIS POINT ☠️☠️

Having volunteered in many food pantries... please take it home if you will eat it, give it to neighbors, etc. Like 70-90% of fresh food donations like this end up going bad and bring thrown out. It's not consistent and it's not planned fresh food, so the chefs there cannot plan on it for meals.

Oh no!! Someone decided to leave our frozen a out from truck overnight without refrigeration and we had to toss them ALL the next day when we opened at 10 because we are so short staffed. Haha love this job.
