Peace Out - 236 (self.starbucksbaristas)

After 5 years at the company, 2.5-3 years of being a supervisor, I finally had my last back room meltdown and called my manager, telling her I hate this job, I am leaving, and I quit. I’ve already been on an LOA due to the mental stress this job has caused me, but I’m done. I’m free. Scared, because Starbucks is all I’ve known for the past 5 years, but ready to leave the stress and over stimulation behind. Peace out. ✌🏻

Congrats! There are better jobs out there. Better pay, less stress, and best of all, no Starbucks customers!

Good for you. This job is not intended to be worked longtime. It could be if Starbucks didn't abuse us. It could be if we had an effective union.

Congrats! I left during the summer after 3 years. At first I felt weird and sad about leaving, but the mental stress of the job isn’t worth it and you’ll quickly see that for yourself. When I first started at the company I really enjoyed it, but it quickly became fast food and the expectations put on us just became more and more brutal.

Once I became an SSV it went even more downhill. Suddenly I was expected to be in charge and handle a million things at once with a smile on my face, but inside each shift felt like a meltdown/heart attack. It’d be a little better if we at least got paid well, but they don’t even do that for us. And most customers are just adult children who expect things immediately, and the company encourages that! The company doesn’t have our back anymore, yet we’re the ones on the front lines working for them. It’s ridiculous.

The job was great and fun, and then it really wasn’t anymore. Everyone at my store became miserable, all the time. After I left, I went to another retail establishment but after earning my college degree I’m trying to get out of retail altogether. As a very introverted person, it’s really burned me out and made me a shell of myself. I’d say for your mental, physical, and overall health you made the best choice. I’m so happy for you and overjoyed for what your future brings to you, I’m wishing you all the best! 💫✨

You're coming home from a stressful high strung hellhole, and I hope you have lots of friends and family waiting to prop you up for a bit.

This job would be bearable if it weren’t for the customers.

Good job, I wish you gainful employment away from that level of abuse

Congrats and don’t worry my theory is IF YOU CAN SURVIVE STARBUCKS YOU CAN THRIVE ANYWHERE ELSE… we’re basically marines lol 😂 we dealt with rushes, rude Karen’s/Kevin’s, happy hour, working OT and being short staffed and we survived

As a 235 and 3 year shift I feel your pain, enjoy the other side for both of us my friend

Hi! Former 236 and shift here. It will get better and you can do way more. Take that shift experience and get a position in a different field. It is definitely scary but I promise you can do better. Sending lots of love and support
