my boss denied my availability request, for no apparent reason. i gave her 5am-5pm. i think it’s because a lot of other people don’t wanna work evenings, but i don’t see why i have to work those shifts? idk. she’s always been passive aggressive with me but i think this is crossing a line.

If you can’t work outside those times, then you can’t work outside those times. Your boss shouldn’t be the one to tell you when you can and can’t work. Unfortunately it’s technically just a request, but it should be a “I’m not available during these times”. This is when you need to talk to your boss face to face.

my manager just fired someone for not greeting customers….while we’re short staffed in the middle of peak….she was a 3 year partner 😭 i don’t know why they do it to themselves

lol i got fired because my boss didnt like me and found one little thing to get me for. my old store used to be 24h and now they close at 8:30 and i cant help but wonder if that still woulda happened if they didnt fire mfs just cuz ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you were hired for your availability to work evening shifts and now you can’t your SM might not have the hours for you in other day parts. You should talk to them about it. It sounds like your short staffed at close, so letting another person not be able to close might not be an option right now.

Solid advice, persona-2. But keep in mind there are only so many closing related tasks that one person can feasibilly complete. OP might want to err a bit later than the *-5 to at least clear some closing duties.

What's crazy is that Store Managers continue to be the biggest reason cited for partner attrition, and corporate continues to promote or hire outside managers with little to no experience or management skills. 9 year partner here, current ssv, came in with over 15 years of management experience. Repeatedly promised asm and manager positions only to learn I'd been lied to. Beat my head against that manager wall for years, while i watched completely inept partners and unexperienced outside hires get those positions. Finally gave up. I come to work do my job and go home.
