I know how it feels. If you do genuinely want to work there one day and still do, I do hope you get the job. It took me about six different attempts to finally get it. However, know that you won't get a lot of sympathy from the people on this subreddit.

Congratulations, you don’t have to work for this shitty corporation.🍾

They did you a favor.

More often than not, it’s not *you* but rather your availability that causes this. Did you say you can’t work early mornings, weekends, etc.?
12shin12 [OP]6 points1y ago
I guess it's early mornings on weekdays, because I'm still in highschool
jpnotaru155 points1y ago
Yeah. It’s possible that your store already has a lot of students that can only work limited availability (like afternoons). There tends to be a lot more people wanting those hours compared to mornings/weekends, for example. I’d try again in a few months or maybe other stores.

When I applied at SB years ago, during my 3 year tenure, I targeted two locations. One called me back first and the interviewer (manager) wasn’t very friendly in person. Needless to say I got turned down. The other store called me two weeks later and had me come in. I had a great interview and turned out that location’s manager was one of the best managers I’ve ever had.
So one day my then manager was next to me discussing something when the manager of the location that turned me down came in for supplies. I think he was a bit surprised to see me and my manager introduced us. I said I knew who he was and that I’d interviewed with him but he turned me down.
He let out an uncomfortable chuckle. My manager then said “oh well that’s your loss and my gain. I know how to hire people and he’s one of my best workers”.
He must’ve stood there a full minute letting that slap drip down his whole body.
It’s their loss. Apply to another store if you want. It depends on the hiring person only.

I just know that other manager is still thinking about this

Congrats, trust me when I say they did you a favor. Starbucks provides a lot of great benefits although the stress and mental health damage that’s caused isn’t worth anything the company has to offer.

Reading all the Reddit posts, trust me you don’t want to work here. My last day is coming up, and I’m excited about that!

The wording of the first paragraph is kind of harsh. It would have been better to say - you have not been selected "at this time" to move forward in the interview process....
It's a little softer wording, and then the second paragraph makes more sense about applying again soon.

Only took me 3 yrs lol

If it makes you feel better I was disappointed when Starbucks was the only place that called my ass back
CorpBrig1 points1y ago
In all honesty though this is probably the best fit for me and I'm sort of glad things worked out the way they did. Customers will be customers but I practically won the lottery with how awesome my coworkers are. (Also I have been making use of the benefits and such)
I'd say you should apply again, preferably in the summer, and hopefully you'll be at a great store with great people.

I’m sorry you didn’t get the job. Honestly though it’s not a great time right now. Corporate does nothing to help us, everyone’s getting covid, customers are rude and demanding. I won’t even lie I’m kind of jealous that you’re dodging a bullet at the moment.
The reality is that the store probably filled the positions with candidates that applied before you. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other stores near you urgently looking to hire. Starbucks is losing people left and right, so if it’s really something you want to do I’d say continue to apply at other stores around you. Working at Starbucks has its ups and downs like any other job. It’s the people that make the difference. I’d say go in to the stores you apply to and just hang out for an hour or two and see how the people working get along. And then apply at that store if they seem to get along well. It’ll definitely help you in the long run.
You don’t have to cope, consider that you may have dodged a bullet. Best of luck!

This is a really bad time of the year to apply. If you really want to work at Starbucks try again over the summer and early fall when they are actively looking to increase the overall number of baristas in preparation for the holiday season. Currently a lot of stores are getting the amount of available labor hours cut by corporate.

It's not, I applied months before their grand opening which is Jan 15 of this year, and they are just down the road from where I live

Congrats!
While yes, Starbucks does grant a lot of benefits, the job itself takes a toll on mental health and they expect A LOT with such low pay. There's better jobs out there, do not beat yourself up over it. Trust me, not worth it.😌
