Cutting hours (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by xj376877
Is it a thing that a gm will cut hours of most partners at the store because corporate told them they had to? Or is it possible that they are just doing it because of some kinda of bonus? Also, if anyone else’s hours have been cut how long did it take to get back to normal, Im kinda stressing out lol

It’s kind of normal that hours get cut after the holidays, as it just becomes far less busy. That said, COVID is messing everything up, so I can’t say this year is anything like typical.

In a nutshell, the SM gets a bonus that has multiple factors-one of them being payroll. If they hit their payroll numbers they get that part of the bonus. The hours that they are allowed to schedule are based on a formula. They have recently changed that formula so that more payroll hours are given. This is how it’s been explained to me.

This isn’t true. I’m an sm. The biggest metric for hitting bonus is sales, and it’s done quarterly. Obviously if you’re overspending on labor then that can hurt your bottom line but I’ve never encountered a scenario where labor weighed so heavily to tip that scale from bonus to no bonus.

That is just how it was explained to me. But, I’m not a SM. Thank you for providing more information.

Maybe sus. My manager is really thoughtful of our partners and is always over scheduling. With all the call outs and isolations, we always hit our numbers anyway.

They always cut hours during January/February. It's to rake in as much cash since they're the slowest months apparently. If it's other than that, yeah you prolly gotta bad gm

My hours have been bad these past few weeks. I only have 25 this week and had 18 last week. Starting the week after I should be ok cuz I told my GM I need to pay rent. She said she’ll cut the hours of the high schoolers who never work lol. Hours usually pick up around March.

If you need hours, you can always work at other locations too. Don’t let it stress you out and try to keep a clear mind.

I have like 4-5 shifts at my store that got less than 15 hours in the coming weeks. The company saw record profits last year and we're still starving our employees, and if you get a second job to cover your lost income they just cut your hours more due to reduced availability.

Bruh apparently the hours at my store are being cut too except from the morning shift. i’m having mid shift ppl willing to open to take my shifts for some hours

Post holidays, this happens at pretty much any retail job

It’s usually like this in January and February. They have to hire what feels like a million partners to get through the holidays because we’re so, so busy. Then January hits and we’re much slower. People aren’t out shopping like they were, they’re being more cautions of their spending after Christmas and some are trying to make healthier choices. Usually around March-ish it picks back up some.
