trenta last minute “favors” rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by canidieyet_
we have a shift at my store who has a ✨ stick so far up their ass it’s basically coming out of their nose ✨ and every time i work with them they’ll ask me to start floors right as i’m clocking out. literally every single time. i say no every time bc unless i somehow can do floors in less than a minute, i’m not staying over to do it (i’m also literally the only person who does them but that’s a different post to itself). it’s not my fault they would rather have 2 cold bar (not that we really have the staff for 2 CB) people while it’s extremely slow than those two working on floors and doing risers.

i have also suggested to start floors/risers when we have the downtime to and they’ll lecture you about how it isn’t a barista’s place to decide…when i’m not actually making the decision just mentioning it’d be more useful to have midday tasks/restock started rather than have 2 baristas twiddling their thumbs? they rather wait until you have the ipad in your hand to clock out to try and guilt trip you into staying and doing the floors and risers. yesterday they BEGGED me (and even started crying when i said no) to sweep and mop cafe, run trash, deep clean restrooms at 4. I was off at 4. I worked a 5.5 hr shift and all that extra stuff would have put me at 6hours…i can guarantee without a lunch. i feel like it’s worth mentioning every shift we’ve had together wasn’t severely understaffed and we had plenty of partners to get things done.

another barista has seen this shift do this to me multiple times and think it’s strange since they don’t ask anyone else for favors at the end of their shifts. me and this shift in particular haven’t ever got along, even when they were still a barista. i’m eventually going to bring it up to my sm but it’s so annoying

It sounds like you are much more qualified to be a shift leader than they are.

Honestly good for you for sticking up for yourself. Let the shift ask someone else to do it. Also i don’t know why some ppl don’t have common sense to start floors/ other tasks without being told. It’s not that hard to see something that needs to be done and if you’re free , you can go ahead and work on those tasks. Maybe bc i’m older and i have this mindset to do cleaning/tasks without being told.

Seems like they’re just picking on u. Anyway, don’t u get paid a lot extra for over staying? Next time u can say if the sm is ok with paying me extra for over 15 minutes then I’ll do it. Code is 2b
