Sooooo ordinarily yeah you don't have to answer....but considering you didn't answer after knowing you'd made a mistake that could potentially be a fireable offense it was probably in your best interest to answer and settle the matter there and then. This ended up being something that only ended up being a problem for you. I can understand not wanting to answer if you know you're going to be asked to pick up a shift on your time off but if it was me I would have answered knowing I had no call/no showed, even if it was my time off, because in the end it would only make my life harder, no one else's.

Ultimately even if that gets written in on the corrective action no one would care, they would care more about the no call no show. I personally wouldn’t go through the hassle of it imo
