Shaker drinks are faster though. Everyone hates them at my store but I can whip them out so quickly that I'm just like "hook me up" (like the refreshers)

Pissed me off when my ex coworker did this, less so when the refresher bases were all refrigerated but when they switched to the pitchers or when it was just the strawberry in a pitcher, the drink had to not be cold. I even had a regular who complained to me about the fact his refreshers were nasty bc two of the others were too lazy to shake them.

tbh i see i got a lot of negative comments and i understand. but if i’m making a basic refresher with (especially if they say no berries) and i pour some in the cup and then use our literal jet stream of a filtered water system and top with ice im positive people will be fine.

fundamentally, they’re easy, but i find them so disruptive. like having to leave the bar to get a shaker and ice just totally messes up flow during a rush. when it’s slower it’s not as bad 😅
at my store this is only possible if you’re on cafe bar (we’re cafe only). and i do this if i am on cafe bar! but if you’re on mobile bar, the only place to store the shakers is on the big rack behind you on cold bar, and we don’t have an ice bin right next to mobile bar, so you have to go across the floor to get ice

My fellow partners tend to keep the shakers on the cold bar with the blenders, but I always keep 1 shaker and 1 lid on the hot bar, upside down where the rinsed steaming pitchers go, I prefer to use the hot bar ice bin always, idk why 😅

FINALLY!!!!! Someone else agrees with me!!!! I’ve been saying that shaken espressos are tied as my least favorite drinks (with Frappuccino’s) because EVERYONE who gets a shaken espresso gets a venti size! One time i had to make 5 shaken espressos, all venti, back-to-back, ranging 5-7 shots!

I only hate it because its unrealistic to make for the way that we have to make them. Literally have to either put extra ice or extra milk to fill the cup eventhough these drinks made at actual coffeeshops where they were designed don't put them in different sized cups and are in the appropriate sized cups so you don't have the dilemma of room left in the cup

I love making them. If your 3-shot button is taking too long, pull the shots in 2’s and 1’s rather than 3 or 3 and 1. It’s two separate grinds and pulls but it finishes faster than pulling a 3 shot and you’re less likely to get bad shots.

I just hate handing out one that is not full because a partner did not shake enough. For some of us (me) 10 shakes is not enough to get the foam to fill the cup. The result is sad and has customers giving me a hard time at the window

I love making them, actually. It was one of the first drinks I thought I really nailed down--when I was fresh out of training, a fellow partner had me make a bunch one night in all different sizes, until it looked like it was layered properly. Trick is to fill the ice to the size line above it, so if someone orders a grande, fill the ice to the top venti line, then pour the shots on top. You get just enough room for the milk, and it gets the really pretty swirl effect.

I agree with you. Tossing poor quality espresso (face it, it is) over ice "shocks" the shots and impacts flavor immediately. Having to constantly use shakers and shake them with dairy nowadays does not make a good smelling container!

Don't shake shots without ice. The shaker can literally come apart forcefully and burn you or anyone around you. If you want to risk that, make sure you're doing it with no one in your immediate vicinity. I always tell people you cannot shake espresso without ice because of the pressure it creates.

my fave drink for years has been a grande starbs double shot w two vanilla bean no classic and extra soy and now when i order it it’s a damn hassle and i feel like partners think i’m just being annoying because shaken espressos are about as annoying as cold foam on a hot drink like okay discontinue shaken espressos and don’t speak to me or my double shot ever again
