what’s abnormal about your starbucks’s building? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by peeops
for us, our drains flood super easily since the store wasn’t built at an angle. so each time we empty a sink, we have to stand there and drain it little by little so we don’t flood the entire back room.
Epona_02 22 points 1y ago
it is pathetically tiny compared to the volume of customers we get.
mr_epix18 12 points 1y ago
We haven’t had a renovation in at least half a decade… Lol
ShadowsDemise42 3 points 1y ago
is it normal for businesses to get renovated every 5 years or less??
Ordinary-Theory-8289 2 points 1y ago
Not at all lol. I’m pretty sure Starbucks will typically do a remodel every 10 years
ShadowsDemise42 1 points 1y ago
i was gonna say…
headsinavicee 1 points 1y ago
Same tho and they aren't planning on doing a renovation because we are located in a chapters and I guess the bux is trying to move away from that
winifredsbitch 1 points 1y ago
Lol same

Our bathrooms are technically in another “unit” of the building (the hallway), so we can’t place maintenance orders to the landlord when they need repairs, which is often. Still our responsibility to clean and stock, though…

something is super weird about the water system in town, our big pitcher rinser flies off the sink all of the time because of random increases of water pressure. our parking lot is notorious for how poorly it was made, everyone get blocked in if the drive thru line is too long. the store is a tiny, off the interstate store so we get way more in store traffic than you would expect. we got a remodel but our bathrooms didn’t, the other day a pipe exploded in the bathroom and began to flood the store
mollythewiz 2 points 1y ago
it sounds like we are at the same store LMAO
OutlandishnessHead74 6 points 1y ago
our drive thru curves weird and sometimes during the dark morning, customers cant see it and drive right over the sidewalk (that has a curb LOL) and end up in our parking lot, checking their car
OutlandishnessHead74 4 points 1y ago
at least 3 cars will do this every morning its kinda funny bcos the person behind them is like😳😳 i wont do that i promise

we have no "back" at all...but instead an employees-only basement >:)

the pros:

\- the lower floor is actually a LOT larger than our *actual cafe space (including the bar floor)* so we have a lot of open space, extra storage, and of course an employee bathroom that will never be touched by a customer \*knocks on wood\*.

\- instead of hauling ice up a flight of stairs or down a hallway we have an ice machine directly next to the end of the bar!

\- did I mention no customer bathroom? and never lacking a place to sit and place your things?

the cons:

\- customers trying to go downstairs to despite our signs begging them not to

\- hauling milk jugs up a flight of stairs 5 times for a restock

\- cleaning stairs

\- stairs

Ours is infested with fruit flies 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve gotten really good at catching them mid air. that’s something to write home about I guess.
Wallfrogfive 3 points 1y ago
We just had renovations and now our cold bar is at the end of the counter which means customers sitting at the table across from it are occasionally splashed with water from the rinser in the sink. So that’s fun..!
lilly260_ 3 points 1y ago
mine used to be a bank lol
barista-baby 1 points 1y ago
so was mine!

Supposedly it's the second biggest Starbucks west of the Mississippi or some crap like that. I guess it used to be the biggest for a long time but a couple years ago a bigger one was built in WA.
goddessofwaterpolo 2 points 1y ago
we have a giant skylight over ours (like the entire ceiling is glass) that makes it super fucking hot like we are in TEXAS
martinifather 2 points 1y ago
my store’s building used to be a Wendy’s so it’s incredibly large. Our back room is bigger than some stores I’ve filled in at
AcanthisittaLazy2681 2 points 1y ago
i realize this is a blessing but my store doesn’t have floor mats… just built in with a nonslip floor 😳 idk how common that is but i’ve yet to see another sbux that’s the same way
overturned23 2 points 1y ago
other than the store being tiny, the cafe is always really hot while the back is always freezing and the ice machine throws ice every time somebody walks by it, but we are getting an renovation soon
bmm0528 1 points 1y ago
Our building is really old and the electrical is outdated. For some reason this makes our water all weird.. A full batch of Pike will overflow until you pull a grande and our shots are only good shots about 40% of the time.

Also I open and I am absolutely convinced my store is haunted. I call him Ghosty Boi and he has his closet he lives in
Leesbux2001 1 points 1y ago
we do not have fire sprinklers
voxinx 1 points 1y ago
Our bars and handoff are alllllll the way inside the back of the store next to the bathrooms. Customers stand by the warming stations all the time and just look at us while waiting for drinks
mini-maggit 1 points 1y ago
No back door
francescugh 1 points 1y ago
2 car distance between ordering box and window. makes it nearly impossible to get peak times below a 45.
rosethorn98_ 1 points 1y ago
That’s my store’s problem as well 😅
Madclaire022 1 points 1y ago
Our filtered water comes out where we rinse our pitchers at. So we put unfiltered water in everything and give out unfiltered water. When they build the building, they put the wrong pipes in the wrong spots
femalehomosapien18 1 points 1y ago
I don’t think that’s allowed 😭
Madclaire022 1 points 1y ago
Obviously. It's a pain to get water. I can't drink tap water

The bathroom located in the back of the building, that we share with the other businesses in the complex. It has one working toilet, the sink doesn’t work, and the lock is busted. I’m not the biggest fan of the public bathroom in the store, but that back bathroom gives me the heebie jeebies
Shiroyu 1 points 1y ago
Ours used to be a Long John Silver's and is super, super tiny with just a bizarre layout. It doesn't really look like a Starbucks at all.
Babygrincher 1 points 1y ago
Our grease trap overflows if you use the Hobart so like shit spelling water floods from the back
