anyone else feeling work exhaustion ??
Accomplished-Bad3856 503 points 1y ago
I heard the medicine ball fixes it.
peanutbutterbarbie 165 points 1y ago
it’s actually called the covid tea
deathbeforedecaf1984 62 points 1y ago
We call it the sick tea round these parts
howdudo 57 points 1y ago
you heard wrong. the iced chai's are the only drink that cures covid
Assiqtaq 21 points 1y ago
Oh please, let this rumor hit the mill!

Someone really comes and askes for a medication tea and an impossible burger while coughing at the order box ☠️
NymphinOut 2 points 1y ago
you should tell fox news so they can get in on the ground floor of this new treatment (;

Medicine ball: better than bleach

BYE 😣😣😣😣
Due_Ad_6793 1 points 1y ago
Try a Venti Mint Majesty w/3 bags, 3/4 honey, 5+ Peppermint and Steamed lemonade optional. Just brewing it cleared my coworkers sinuses.
heyitsme963 181 points 1y ago
Hahaha my coworker came in coughing this morning after taking a few days off and kept pulling her mask down to talk. She left early because she “got too tired,” too. We’re coping great over here. Our livers? Not so much.
b99__throwaway 77 points 1y ago
okay who let her work without doing the covid coach
heyitsme963 58 points 1y ago
She did. She was the opening shift, so I assume she did what she always does at open and signed off for all 3 openers at the same time and just wrote someone else’s name as the person who verified her.
SplashStick 24 points 1y ago
I’m pretty sure at my store this would be a write up 😬
rockishOBOI 8 points 1y ago
This is done at my store too. The SSVs do it for the openers 😬
Assiqtaq 13 points 1y ago
Honestly, no one cares. As long as it looks like the effort was made, SB is ready to accept profits. All corporations. It isn't only Starbucks.
Paprmoon7 5 points 1y ago
Everyone I work with has been coming in with symptoms. In fact they will post to the group chat saying they have a fever and come in. I think I’m the only one who cares
verdeuce 11 points 1y ago
People who pull their masks down to talk irk me to no end
nbanderson32 99 points 1y ago
By catching COVID. I had a customer come in Tuesday night and order a “medicine ball” while clearly sick. A few days later I was running a 103 degree fever with all the other classic symptoms. I don’t go anywhere but work bc my girlfriend has a medical condition that puts her at heightened risk, so I know that’s how I had to have gotten it. Still sick as I’m typing this.
Aurora_Boreallis 32 points 1y ago
Same. I never go anywhere. I grocery shop at 8am on weekdays and so how got covid
nbanderson32 47 points 1y ago
That’s the most unfortunate part about this whole pandemic… the people who are doing what they’re supposed to are bearing the consequences of those who are not. In many cases that consequence can be a fatal one.
mama_bibi 6 points 1y ago
How's your girlfriend?
nbanderson32 5 points 1y ago
She’s staying with her parents and tested negative, luckily I didn’t give it to her. That was what I was scared of most.
mama_bibi 2 points 1y ago
Ok good. Im glad at least there's some sort of positivity to this. Its very frustrating having people order the "medicine ball" while hacking up a lung. I wish they would get rid of the drink and maybe people will stop thinking its medicine. Smh
bitchmcconnelll 90 points 1y ago
I’m a store manager and I’m dying inside.
deathbeforedecaf1984 38 points 1y ago
ASM here and my soul is black
Edit: I tested positive today so I guess I’m coping by having to stay home
riddlvr 52 points 1y ago
One soul, no cream, no sugar
sasschester [OP] 21 points 1y ago
i’m so sorry
verdeuce 3 points 1y ago
Truly exhausted
accountedthrowaway5 44 points 1y ago
it sucks because we’re already understaffed, and now we’re more understaffed and running drive through only and our customers are already hell- god it’s so stressful. so many medicine balls and teas and it makes me worry that we’re getting sick because of the customers themselves
sasschester [OP] 13 points 1y ago
that was me on saturday 😭
i was the mid shift, scheduled 7am-3:15pm. i got there, and an hour into my shift my SM told me i worked w someone who was positive. i’m vaxxed, but one of my coworkers who was exposed as well is not and was sent home early. she was also the opening shift so i had to take over as shift, running w roughly 6 partners total during peak
purseEffphony 4 points 1y ago
>i’m vaxxed, but one of my coworkers who was exposed as well is not and was sent home early.

That seems like a reward that your coworker gets to go home because exposed to covid and for not getting vaxxed which really boils my blood.

I get we dont want it spreading and sending her home was the right choice 100% but i was told since I am vaxxed and boosted I can work exposed as long as I'm not showing symptoms.

Because theoretically, no symptoms means you're not contageous.🙄
sasschester [OP] 1 points 1y ago
exactly!! and slowly, my fellow partners at my store are getting symptoms. we have about 9 SSVs, and 5 are either out with COVID or sick and waiting for results — as far as i’m aware, she’s the only SSV at my store that’s not vaxxed. and i keep stressing myself out over the fact that my throat has been hurting the last few days (could very well be due to lack of sleep and exhaustion but i stayed home today from work and plan to get tested tomorrow)
HunterLost2062 4 points 1y ago
6 partners during peak would be soooo nice
mama_bibi 1 points 1y ago
Right. I'm constantly doing pos and support among other stuff since I'm a shift. 6 I could at least breathe
accountedthrowaway5 3 points 1y ago
rooting for you guys… everything sucks so bad rn 😭
purpleelephant77 7 points 1y ago
Were the opposite — we’ve been closing the drive through so everyone is inside breathing down our necks 🙃
accountedthrowaway5 20 points 1y ago
that’s not safe though… being drive through only limits spread of Covid so much more than being cafe only…??? trying to figure out what your SM was thinking here…
Klaus_Unechtname 41 points 1y ago
I found a different job
CS3883 4 points 1y ago
I'm about to soon 🥰🥰 gotta put out resumes but I'll be far away from customer service thank god
The_tired_barista 27 points 1y ago
I cry… a lot… when I get home from being overworked and exhausted. I legit just told my SM I need to cut hours bc I can’t handle it rn.
sasschester [OP] 15 points 1y ago
honey, take some time to yourself! your safety and mental health should be your #1 priority.
bestowcurse 26 points 1y ago
I got a positive on my covid test and now I'm suffering the crushing guilt of endangering my coworkers.
terriblescreenwriter -30 points 1y ago
Wtf don’t go to work?!!!!
bestowcurse 50 points 1y ago
It's almost like I just got the positive result today, after my shift, unaware I was covid positive when I was told to return to work
Paprmoon7 0 points 1y ago
But we’re you sick?
bestowcurse 2 points 1y ago
No lol
aronelo 22 points 1y ago
Not good, I already used both my isolation periods and now my roommate has tested positive. I’m not showing symptoms right now, but I’m quite frankly terrified to go into work, knowing that since I’m vaxxed and boosted my manager won’t let me go home unless I’m dead.
palepinktulip 2 points 1y ago
How many isolation periods to u get?
aronelo 3 points 1y ago
2 for corporate stores, idk about other ones
dthomp0806 4 points 1y ago
You get more. Your sm just had to submit a request. I'm on my 3rd right now. Someone else at my store is on the 4th.
gsselph 1 points 1y ago
I feel like my SM just told me that they are resting our isolation periods but I’m not completely sure.
mama_bibi 1 points 1y ago
I'm almost positive it's 2 per 1/4 but more than likely will change
verdeuce 1 points 1y ago
The new quarter just restarted and it’s 2 per quarter now so even if you’ve isolated in the past, you get 2 new isolations paid after 1/3
TylerJ716 21 points 1y ago
I wanted extra hours and went to another store .... it was me solo on drive, my shift solo bar for all orders (drive, cafe, mobile AND delivery) and a 2 month older green bean on warming and cafe orders. 😀

I can't imagine how they would do without my presence
persona-2 7 points 1y ago
How so that even an option? I would understand late afternoon or something, but if you were busy why was everything still turned on?
TylerJ716 7 points 1y ago
Most of the staff thought they were off when I went in at 7, granted two people were on break, one of them working a double so he was on his first lunch 🙃
ZombieLlamaSlays 2 points 1y ago
This is literally me every Tuesday night. I’m new to SB and started out as a shift. I have been stuck on closing shifts and basically live on a 3 play from 3-5pm. Its always a nightmare. I feel so bad for my baristas too because I know I’m feeling exhausted, I can’t imagine how they feel.
LeahMCopsey 20 points 1y ago
This past Sunday was my first day back to work after being out for two weeks with Covid. I’m six months pregnant and the symptoms were rough. I was in the hospital, difficultly breathing and high fevers. Half of my store has been out due to having Covid or coming into close contact with someone who tested positive. So we have been drive through only. One of my fellow coworkers messaged me the day prior(Saturday)informing me she just tested positive. But worked that day of and was scheduled to come in on Sunday. I was the shift running the floor and noticed she was scheduled to come in that day. I said hell no and immediately messaged her telling her to stay home. I messaged my store manager, he doesn’t work on Sundays, how highly uncomfortable that made me and the handful of other employees working. He tried arguing with me that she was not showing any symptoms. I threatened to walk and all of the sudden he changed his tune. The blatant disregard for our health and safely is disgusting. Mind you this same store manager tested positive for Covid three weeks prior and tried keeping it a secret.

My district manager told me Covid “shouldn’t concern me” as according to him “no partner has ever gotten Covid from another partner before”
daughterhood 14 points 1y ago
There is no war in ba sing se
Strong_Challenge1363 3 points 1y ago
Your DM can talk to my SM and see how that's totally balls
Pippy575 2 points 1y ago
Your Dm is full of shit. We’ve been passing it around my store for two weeks now.
5AV1OR 2 points 1y ago
Yeah we have had partners at MY store in his district give each other Covid. It was a 0/10 display of support when I had talked to him. He told me that he was very bothered by my usage of the word “danger” when talking about how partners with Covid are a danger to other partners and customers.
melodiic_ 13 points 1y ago
i'm a hella burned out closing ssv from a high volume cafe.... this surge has been brutal, coping w lots of weed and compartmentalizing stress ngl
sasschester [OP] 5 points 1y ago
glad i’m not the only one tbh
melodiic_ 2 points 1y ago
even my SM is reaching his breaking point, 7+ people out with covid so far (all vaxxed)
xoMisaa 3 points 1y ago
bruh i’m literally ab to go back to smoking every night when i return bc almost half of my store is calling out bc they’re all getting sick😩
Blue-Jay27 12 points 1y ago
I put in my two-week notice ✌️
Young-Jeezy 5 points 1y ago
👏 to better days for you
2166K 12 points 1y ago
Not !! Good !!
sheep_heavenly 10 points 1y ago
Not at all more or less. Partners lying on the coach, customers coming in complaining about going to get tested or how they tested positive, most of us use public transit and the ambient noise is Light Coughing.

I was kinda hanging in there, then got the call that my aunt was hospitalized (lung issues + immune compromised) and a partner came in and knowingly lied because "it's not a big deal". I wanted to scream, that's the behavior that got my aunt exposed. Why we're still doing this bullshit.

So yeah. COVID coach asks if you got a headache, fatigue, nausea, chills, and it's like idk it could be COVID but it could be the prolonged extreme stress of living through a pandemic that's killing my aunt and being gaslit the entire time by corporate interests. Idk.
normaldud 9 points 1y ago
Literal hell. Our headsets all died and we had to close drive thru, 2 people ran over our A frame, we have a green bean working with us trying his best to learn everything he can with all of the shortages and how obnoxiously busy our store is with a 25% cut in labor at our store.
xoMisaa 7 points 1y ago
i just wanna know how THE FUCK people don’t see those giant ass A-Frames 🤦🏻‍♀️ i wish you luck in these dark times ❤️
roomoney 8 points 1y ago
As an SM, I had to still run my store from home while positive..

So, not great.
adelaIsInACave 8 points 1y ago
I covered for a bunch of partners during the holidays. Took on New Years Day and three extra days for those who got COVID, a week later I test positive. So doing great!
crzyshiba 7 points 1y ago
It’s soo hard out of 24 partners we literally have 6 partners left and I’m the last shift standing … until Thursday and people angry cause our hours change everyday
Pheebers713 7 points 1y ago
12 people from my store tested positive or went into isolation the week after Christmas. Myself included. One of my other shifts mom works in health care and got it from there. Then passed it on to three other people at our store when they had a bonfire. The mom didn’t have symptoms at the time and neither did the other shift. One of those people was my roommate. I got it and then a few baristas got it too. I think the worst part for all the people that were working is that of our 6 shift supervisors 4 of them were out leaving two shifts and my SM. My SM hadn’t closed since she was training me to close 2 years ago when I became a shift. She closed almost every night for 10 days, half the closers wanted to jump off the roof. We’re fine now it looks like but honestly I’m glad I got Covid during that.
Saltiboi08 6 points 1y ago
Pretty sure I have COVID. I work around 30-35 hours a week, so I’m pretty sure that’s where I got it from. At this point I feel like we need to go back into lockdown for everyone’s safety
ProfessionalRock7940 6 points 1y ago
We are skeleton crew and drive thru only with reduced hours for the foreseeable future loool
avissn97 6 points 1y ago
Half of my store started testing positive days after our store manager quit (dec.23) and we didn’t get a new store manager until today. It’s been an actual sh*t show and it’s definitely taken years off my life lmao
SomeComputer2992 6 points 1y ago
I went to go call manager since my dad tested positive and I was a close contact, then she tells me that someone I worked with over the weekend tested positive and I was a close contact, and I still have to go in if I’m not feeling any symptoms?!?!? I’m livid
verdeuce 1 points 1y ago
Are you vaccinated
SomeComputer2992 1 points 1y ago
Yeah I am I got tested today and hopefully the results come in before my next shift so I can feel more at ease working, just don’t want to expose other partners if I’m asymptomatic
aavery99 6 points 1y ago
It's great! Tips have been nice and the store has been opening late, meaning we closers actually have food to eat.

In all seriousness tho, it's scary. I hope all the sick/positive partners are okay and safe, and that this all clears up quickly.
krym32zamoon 5 points 1y ago
I got yelled at by a security worker who came in asking why were closing early and I said no staff. He said "there's 2 of you here." And I said "yes, and the store is suppose to close at 9 and we can't keep it up until then so we're closing now." I came from another store to help close that one too.

It's ridiculous how customers can't have any empathy or understanding for us working here.
NervosaNervous 5 points 1y ago
We’ve had to close down for a week, and we’re going back to block scheduling.
sneaky_capybara 5 points 1y ago
at our peak (which was literally just like two days ago) we were out 8 partners, and 9 counting todays new isolator :) we’re a store of 30-ish partners so almost 1/3 of us are out. we’re doing pretty great!!
danabakes32 4 points 1y ago
Bad. Three people are out at my store. Two with positive tests, one unvaccinated and in close proximity to them. It’s just me, a newbie who isn’t okay in her own yet, and one more who is only available Sunday-Tuesday. Im the lead and I can’t take this anymore. Im so tired…
Also, yes. We do only have six baristas normally it’s fine 🙃
doodycalls666 4 points 1y ago
My store determined that if you tell too many ‘your mama’ jokes, you’re gonna get it
imathrowayslc 4 points 1y ago
Laying in bed coughing and hurting everywhere :/. Waiting for my test results.
hungrymuffin123 4 points 1y ago
My manager texted me to tell me I was exposed last week from a partner testing positive and ended the message with “have a nice day!”
axel_ispurechaos 4 points 1y ago
Literally caught covid because my sibling was exposed but their Starbucks coworker(s). I work a at licensed Starbucks in a different city [like hours away] than my sibling. I was visiting for the holidays and the day I went home I was fine but my sibling started feeling sick. I started feeling like sh*t at work and called off my shift for the next day that night I came home. Got tested, because my sibling told me their Starbucks situation, on my scheduled days off and got a positive result. Turns out a lot of people where my store is located also have been calling out for covid.
imnohelp- 3 points 1y ago
customers hacking as they order a hcmt… me and my coworkers kinda chuckle at their stupidity but it’s honestly so scary ☹️ you’re gonna risk spreading your covid because you want a shitty overpriced citrus tea..? ok.
Strong_Challenge1363 3 points 1y ago
Closes the lobby. Handing out Honey citrus mints with a grabber (I wish). Already taking bets on which of our co workers who have interesting opinions on how vaccines work are gonna suddenly not be in the schedule

The usual
[deleted] 3 points 1y ago
💀 I haven't been back to a Starbucks since working and I am not even bothering to even order right now because of that. 100 percent coping without it.
I moved on to better opportunities so, I no longer even need to come into a Starbuck.

It was nice knowing you all thank you guys. Please unionize. I am now using my public Twitter to post freely about unionizing starbucks.
abradds 3 points 1y ago
honestly, given the fact that my whole family and I are high risk, it has given me serious cause to start thinking about whether or not it’s safe for me to be working here rn, but I don’t think anywhere else is any better so I’m not really sure what to do
the1noir 3 points 1y ago
All of 2020 and 2021 my store hadn’t dealt with any positive cases or mass closures/isolations but 1 day into 2022 my store has been open and closed, modified hours and a skeleton crew, holidays fucked us up.
Thedenimqueen 3 points 1y ago
Not great, I just started working at the sbux on my local college campus after months of being unemployed and instead of being excited to work again i am constantly wracked with anxiety. I just got over what was seemingly a cold (tested cov- but its the sickest and longest ive been sick in a while so i mightve tested too soon, but im having to ration my rapid tests) and i just cant afford to and dont want to get sick again.

Right now its okay school isnt in session but given that we're such a high volume store and seemingly have no intention to keep people out of the cafe area its like watching a train crash in slow motion waiting for students and staff to fully return
Its-a-monday 3 points 1y ago
I took off a couple weeks at the beginning of December, came back for one shift, and went home with the Rona. Gave my two weeks as soon as I got back. This job kinda sucks.
dontgiveah00t 3 points 1y ago
About to return after my covid leave and heard almost half the store is out 😂
capybaraRage 2 points 1y ago
Screaming into the void and drinking 😂
Paprmoon7 2 points 1y ago
My store manager coughed in my face so things are going pretty well
Amalathecreator 2 points 1y ago
Every other week there is an isolation or partners out with covid. I feel like I’m on a tight rope
xoMisaa 2 points 1y ago
i’m returning this week from my covid leave (it’s been almost a month bc i was visiting my grandmother for xmas then i caught covid) and i’m dreading it bc a bunch of staff are calling out bc they’re not feeling well and getting tested…. i’m getting tested rn as i type this even tho i’m like 6 days symptom free bc i had to wait almost two weeks to get this appointment 🥲🤙🏻 took an at home test and it was positive but since sbux doesn’t accept at home tests i had to make an appointment for a rapid test 👍🏻
CardiographicDuck 2 points 1y ago
I was trying to my best to ignore it but now I’m having to go home because I’m having symptoms. Friend just told me they tested positive and we hung out a few days ago. So ready for the pandemic to be done with..
MontyPantheon 2 points 1y ago
I ran late and forgot to do the covid questions. I tested positive later that day. Was out for the 10 days. I just got my notice of separation for not taking the questions

I worked 42 hours last week to help cover the floor. My feet hurt.
leeblissy 1 points 1y ago
my dad who I live with tested positive and I had to fight for my life to be put on isolation lmaoooo
kimjafo 1 points 1y ago
I’m still sick but my off days are almost up 😵‍💫 my temp is going back up to 99 again though
GrimLegate 1 points 1y ago
It blows. Every shift is a nightmare between bad partners and partners being out. Had shared a bed and my vape with a positive buddy of mine, got the news in the middle of a shift, and was told to stay. Thank gods I SOMEHOW managed to not catch it, but holy shit. It's rough out here in the weeds.
sh3nan1gans_ 1 points 1y ago
We had 8 people out for a couple weeks ago and let me tell you.. it was a struggle working a shift with only 3 people lmao
skeletaldecay 1 points 1y ago
The other stores in my area close early, turn off mobiles, and go to drive thru only. At my store, we soldier on with whoever shows up that day.
Grapejellydino 1 points 1y ago
So 3 of our 4 shift leads is out due to covid or paternal leave so we have people that were being trained for leads be actual leads and it's been a crazy couple days especially due to it being back to school week for most of our partners
dallizzlee 1 points 1y ago
We were the only store open in our district on Sunday.
wunderkyn 1 points 1y ago
Umm…we’re not. Send help.😐
starbys 1 points 1y ago
We had like half our store catch it. Though, a lot of us are back now. We're all vaccinated, some even have the boosters.
I'm feeling back to normal, but I cannot afford to catch it again.
HGoddess88 1 points 1y ago
It’s so crazy.. in my area, they closed the two cafe stores (mine included) and we are having to work at one of the drive thru stores. Our DM won’t let us use sick or vacation time (unless it was already scheduled) or we could not work at a drive thru and not get paid. My SM didn’t let me and another shift know that we had worked with a positive partner and we didn’t have to isolate because we are vaccinated. It’s all shitty 🤦🏼‍♀️
swanpjm 1 points 1y ago
i’m back in school and only work 20hrs over 3 days now, but i’m in nursing school so all around im dying inside 🥲
hadbeenknown 1 points 1y ago
Our store manager makes us work even if we are exposed to someone with Covid. Their logic, “you're vaccinated so it's fine"

I was only one of two shifts who weren't sick last week 😅
Brownbaristahh 1 points 1y ago
All the shifts are sick at my store and my manager has manager stuff to do. So when she’s in her meetings I’m running the floor bc I’m shift supervisor in training 😅 we’re only open for seven and a half hours

vandilor 1 points 1y ago
closing early! we closed at noon for a couple of days. it was crazy. like half the partners got sick so we had to run with less than 20 people. we have about 42 partners currently. so open late close early
Vlnvln2021 1 points 1y ago
… not well 😞
Illustrious-Tie-118 1 points 1y ago
Don’t mind the extra pay! 💰 I will take it for sure.
omogal123 1 points 1y ago
I have not notice any changes in my store bc i have not been working and i wokr at my other job. But the last time i work still 4/5 stores in my town are close bc of covid and understaffed
