PEOPLE WHO WORKED IN FAST FOOD B4 WAS IT HARD OR EASIER TRANSITIONING TO STARBUCKS(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Cinnabunlatte
right now I work at Taco Bell and I am trained on both food and service, and I’d say I’m pretty fast and good at my job! I was wondering is Starbucks more fast paced or did you find it a bit more manageable and easier in a way?

shake shack to starbucks, stbx was so easy it’s insane. but any job has its hard labor parts someones
Cinnabunlatte [OP]6 points1y ago
gotcha! any food industry is hard in my opinion and very draining but! Hoping for something a smig less tiring than traditional fast food! Thank you :))

youll enjoy the calm heticness of it haha its calm really every small thing is 40 seconds or less

I come from Taco Bell background and it helps in my opinion, that fast paced back and forth multi tasking environment is familiar grounds. It’s getting down the recipes & standards of making drinks and knowledge in knowing where things are on the computer when ringing up customers correctly to get to a point of swiftness.
Cinnabunlatte [OP]3 points1y ago
that makes sense!! yep hoping I remember the drink recipes quickly 😅 thanks so much!
Odd-Ad40676 points1y ago
soooo much easier. i had already adapted to the fast pace environment and shitty customers
Cinnabunlatte [OP]2 points1y ago
shitty customers anywhere you go unfortunately ☹️☹️ but that sounds good!! Thanks so much

Tim Hortons to Starbucks. Very easy transition, but starbucks customers are A Lot more entitled.

I have a feeling they will be unfortunately

I worked for a very popular Cuban bakery in CA that serves thousands of people a day and my job involved learning the menu and what we served each day, which did involve taking a test 30 days after employment (could only miss up to 5 answers), and preparing/memorizing orders either by memory or writing it down and boxing up the pastries/desserts/cake,etc.. it was BUSY, the most hectic job I’ve ever worked. Transferring from that to a high volume Tarbucks/Target Cafe then to a Starbucks has made it very easy. Starbucks is very fast paced and can be manageable at times, but it all depends on location. If you already have a high tolerance with complex customers and situations at Taco Bell and reference that when working for the Siren, you’ll do just fine! It’s all the same tbh.

ihop to dunkin to starbucks. starbucks is by fair the easiest and most fun job i’ve had. the other jobs definitely did help with the fast paced environment as ihop was literally 4 straight hours of rush in the mornings
Cinnabunlatte [OP]1 points1y ago
cool thank you!! Hoping so, at taco bell have had to deal with night rushes that never end 😫 thank you

It helped so much for me since I already had the hustle and multitask mindset
Cinnabunlatte [OP]1 points1y ago
same! I think I have definitely built that through Taco Bell! Hoping it helps

Much easier. I used to work at a local burger chain between like 4 churches and across from a highschool so saying we got busy was an understatement. When I started training at a kiosk grocery store sbux it was during our fantastic 2021 heatwave of 110-115*f at the end of June, and was learning the drinks as the trainers were shifted at how busy it was with the suffocating heat outside.
The store i did my first week of training at was not the store I was hired for, but they already were training one other person and figured I would pick things up faster in the grocery chains corporate store(in the managers words "I'm sending them the person i think will pick it up fastest")
But I guess the heatwave was bringing everyone in for cold drinks&AC lol My trainer said it was xmas level busy, trying to assure me it was rare to be that busy lol
I said if this is the busiest it gets I'll be just fine haha
But that kiosk definitely wasn't as busy as the one I was hired and worked at for 6 months, which is weird considering the one I worked at had 3 other starbucks locations on the same street within 5 minutes of each other and like 8 other mom&pop coffee shops, a dutch bros(and now a black rock) All within 10 minutes of each other at most. There was a coffee shop in the parking lot of the grocery store where i worked 🤣
But even with the insane amount of people determined to get coffee at this kiosk, and working alone, it wasn't ever nearly as intense as fast food got.
Cinnabunlatte [OP]2 points1y ago
wow that many coffee shops jeez! yep I think I’ll be working just right outside the mall but there’s another Starbucks literally maybe a 5 minute walk away down the street that is much bigger so hoping that one is busier 😹 and we have less customers.
Thanks so much for your help!
Glad to hear it’s not as bad as fast food

The only reason I left the sbux kiosk I talked about(currently unemployed) was because of the coworkers and management, honestly, as long as you get a good crew it's a lot of fun and cranky customers really don't bother me much after a few minutes lol.
My main problem was probably going too hard on the job, so on my days off or when I had to call out 2x in a row because of ice on my roads, I came back and literally it looked like no one had done any of the closing cleaning or replacing expired stuff while I was gone because they knew I would do it, and that kind of was the straw that broke the camels back lol.
Good luck!! The drinks were so fun to make!

Wendy’s to Starbucks. By far the easiest transition I’ve had since I’ve started working in high school.
Cinnabunlatte [OP]1 points1y ago
been at Taco Bell since high school too! And just graduated so! Hoping my time there helped, thank you!

Went from a line cook at Hat Creek to the siren, and it was so easy of an adjustment that I was shocked when people say they hated it here. Turns out work doesn't suck so much when your norm was a hot, stuffy, and greasy kitchen that had you coming home with burns at least once a week.
Cinnabunlatte [OP]1 points1y ago
DEFO! I am not going to miss the grease and sweat and smelling like beef all the time

I came from subway, which helped because I already had to memorize a large, customizable menu and deal with very specific orders. For me, Starbucks was just more systematic and fast paced. But the previous food handling and customer service experience helped me jump into the Starbucks environment with confidence. I’d say my biggest challenge at Starbucks was learning to work a drive thru because (luckily) my subway did not have one. Hope this helps ❤️
