Possibly controversial- but what is everyone planning on doing/thinking in regards to the vaccine mandate for Starbucks partners?(self.starbucksbaristas)

nicathor79 points1y ago
I'm in Seattle and we've all been vaxed since March/April. To all anti-vax partners we say so long and good riddance!
viktorluvslemonade76 points1y ago
At my store there hasn't been much issue with it. I and a majority of the store were already vaccinated, and a lot of those that weren't yet went and got it. It's been pretty quiet over it.
photo_rain [OP]36 points1y ago
Yeah I’m in a southern state- and I know a lot of the partners aren’t vaccinated and are leaving Starbucks now because of it
viktorluvslemonade19 points1y ago
That's strange. Our store is in a state in the south east known for strange criminals but like I said we're being pretty chill on it. We're in a more liberal area though so that may be why.
photo_rain [OP]6 points1y ago
Oh yea- definitely a not liberal area haha!
Madclaire0221 points1y ago
I'm very much so in a conservative area but all of our partners except one are vaccinated
Saint-enance11 points1y ago
A few weeks after I left (for unrelated reasons, I’m vaccinated), I heard through the grapevine that about 40% of my store’s employees were planning to leave because of the mandate. Guess where I live.
Madclaire0221 points1y ago
If I had to guess, Florida
TransportationDull641 points1y ago
I'm doing the testing but some of the rules on vaccination and isolation is really messed up, I punch in on like a minute, I'll add more info later
adventurelyfe65 points1y ago
Hopefully they all leave. Covid-deniers are the worst. Last thing I want to do is work with them.

i’m scared to see what will happen. less than half of our store is vaccinated. a few don’t think covid is even real. 2 have had parents die of covid and still refuse to get the vaccine and still take there mask of the second they get the chance. id imagine a lot of stores going on modified hours because a lot of staff will quit.
photo_rain [OP]12 points1y ago
I’m worried similar- I feel like those of us who are and stay - are going to be screwed over. And who is going to actually go get tests every week?????!
lewabwee10 points1y ago
I mean the idea is precisely that getting tested weekly is impossible. A bunch of people are either going to leave major corporations or be forced to get vaccinated because they need to keep their jobs.
Of course this also means that nobody will be able to get tested, and especially won’t be able to get their results in a timely manner, because the amount of resources this is going to take is more than we have.
We’ll see if it makes it past SCOTUS though.
photo_rain [OP]5 points1y ago
And then honestly a lot of stores - especially in the more conservative states- won’t have enough employees and will have to probably shut down is my worry- which means everyone loses out - even those who are vaccinated…..
But no matter what side of the spectrum one falls on…. This all does feel unconstitutional
lewabwee1 points1y ago
It’s one of those things where I can see what they’re going for but it just wouldn’t work out the way they want it to.
helpmeplz2197 points1y ago
dude that’s what i was thinking. a lot of the people i work with have kids. how can they make time between work and raising humans to go wait forever to get a test*. i don’t like how there doing this whole thing now half my store went out about two weeks ago i worked with a person who tested positive the day prior to getting tested the entire day we were in with in 2 feet of each other on bar. and they didn’t even tell me she was positive. and even tho i’m fully vaccinated and boosted was still exposed by being by that partner for hours. at least after everyone quits we might possibly be able to close the lobby 🙂
veganwifey1 points1y ago
The new policy on isolation is so BS I’m sorry you weren’t notified (you should have been) and I hope you’re able to stay healthy!
IgnoranceIsBliss22317 points1y ago
i was originally going to go with weekly testing (since i have had reactions to vaccines in the past) but decided it would be easier to just get vaccinated instead. i get my second shot on the 29th!
starrrrrfruittttt2 points1y ago
my sister is like you so hoping your second one is easy on your body!!! def stock up on essentials that make you feel better: tea, soup, ice packs and epsom salt!!!
ThyKingToker11 points1y ago
I’m planning on getting paid 2 hours for something I was gonna do anyways 🤷♂️
extrashotplease-1 points1y ago
They’re not paying you anymore.
ThyKingToker6 points1y ago
Yes they are I talked to my manager last week. I’m fully vaccinated he said “Lmk when you get your booster so I can get you paid”
extrashotplease-1 points1y ago
One we start weekly testing which is feb 9 they will not pay you to get vaccinated or booster
verdeuce7 points1y ago
This is not true. Vaccine and booster pay is continuing through Q2 which just started on 1/3
Logical-Doubt-60216 points1y ago
Im chilling but I have partners convinced the mandate won't even happen 😐
rudebii7 points1y ago
That’s not unfounded. Airlines, USPS, other large employers have asked for extensions. States like Texas are fighting it, and given the composition of SCOTUS, there’s a chance the mandate might be overturned.
Before anyone downvotes me, I’m just reading the room. I don’t like it, but I’m recognizing the state of affairs atm.
Logical-Doubt-60213 points1y ago
Yeah I feel you. I'm in texas and my sm seems like they will be mandating it... not sure how its going to go down with some tho 😀
rudebii0 points1y ago
There’s also the bit about enforcement. I live in a purple coastal county in California. We are currently under a statewide mask mandate for indoors, regardless of vax status. Only larger businesses are enforcing, and even then, aren’t pushing back at all when customers ignore the mandate. Omicron is running wild too, only reason we aren’t seeing as much death in CA as in other states is that our vax rate is higher, but ERs are reaching max capacity in urban areas like LA.
jjd0229805 points1y ago
I’m concerned because I’m vaxxed and on the verge of burn out! It’s been insane since we have changed our hours and our county has been hit with the omricron!
Sammiche5 points1y ago
I guess it'd be the push I need to get off my butt and get my booster shot. 🤔
Binx_da_gay_cat6 points1y ago
I'm saving mine for summer likely cause it knocked mom down with a fever for 4 days and right now college won't let me miss school for that long lol (no homework extensions and too much homework to be out for more than a day).
But I have my first 2 and flu, so I've currently done what I can.
Sammiche6 points1y ago
I'm about as paranoid about covid now as I was before the vaccine was developed. Maybe 10% of people in my area mask, if that. So even though I got my two shots and mask in public, I'm still concerned.
Binx_da_gay_cat4 points1y ago
I am too, and both a grandpa and a great-aunt went through cancer last year. Survived, but I've been super cautious.
I just am currently in 2 extremely difficult 8 week class this term and 3 next term (aka second half of the semester) and don't have time to presently get the booster. I regret not getting it over winter break lol. I'm also super cautious and paranoid and don't go out except for work (thankfully our favorites mask) and school (mandatory masking).
I think I'm more worried about those who aren't concerned. 😶
IthacanPenny-3 points1y ago
Ok serious question: *why* are you “paranoid”? Like why are you worrying about this? Chances are like, yeah, you will probably get Covid. But also, **overwhelmingly**, chances are it will be mild because you are vaxxed. You did everything you could. Why are you wasting energy worry about this?
starrrrrfruittttt3 points1y ago
you sound like that therapist that told me to stop thinking about what was causing my anxiety. LMAO
Sammiche3 points1y ago
Because I'm a chronic overthinker with a history of hypochondria. 👍
Chemical-Less4 points1y ago
Im way up north so all of us have been vaxxed since the moment it became available for us. Thank god frankly, i have several high risk family members and tend to be rather sickly myself so i dont think id be able to handle the stress of having coworkers who refused to get it for whatever reason (excluding people with genuine medical exceptions of course-- those are who we want to protect with herd immunity!)
starrrrrfruittttt3 points1y ago
my whole store is vaccinated so i’m indifferent. if you’re anti vax and not getting vaccinated that’s on you + good bye. especially in america where it had been readily available, unless you’re actually allergic or can’t get the vaccine then i don’t care you had your chance. you had well over a year now to get vaccinated, this is on you if you lose your job. we saw the testing schedule and we’re like wtf is this and then we all laughed bc we’re all vaccinated so we were reading it for no reason.
ossarylark3 points1y ago
You get the shot. Duh.
sero50743 points1y ago
I’m getting my second dose. I’ve needed it since July last year…😬 idrc about starbucks mandating it but I just have been needing to get it
Bpdgrace2 points1y ago
Damn u cant say anything that's not glowingly positive about the vaccine without getting downvoted to hell lmao
Great_Introduction732 points1y ago
does this have anything to do w canada?
Kindly-Wear-62902 points1y ago
I believe this is just an issue for the US. It’s being heard by the Supreme Court.
I would imagine it would be adopted by stores in Canada eventually though. Honestly, I’m surprised it hasn’t already.
Twippet1 points1y ago
As someone that had the vaccine and has Covid currently. I feel worse than my fiancé who doesn’t have it.
AJ2288421 points1y ago
I’d say 90% of our store is vaccinated and boosted and the only people who I know aren’t are minors who’s parents won’t sign. I don’t see why it’s a big deal. Get vaccinated or don’t and do what you are required to do.
WallyBBunny1 points1y ago
Most of my closing team is vaccinated. Those who aren’t have tended to get covid and are now quarantined. We had both opening SSV have it now too. For the most part the store overall is vaccinated and we take this incredibly seriously. I don’t understand why some people still don’t.
uwumoment1 points1y ago
i thought my store would be anti-vaxx since we have some older people but a majority of my partners are actually vaccinated, i am as well, so just chilling for the most part

Some of these comments are so ugly. We all as people, human fucking beings, have a right to do what we want when it comes to this vaccine. I don’t judge y’all for getting it, don’t judge others for not.
dsc4228 points1y ago
Having a right doesn’t put you above judgement. This isn’t some inconsequential personal preference, like liking chocolate vs liking vanilla, it is a direct indicator of how you value yours, and especially others, health and safety. Unless you have a valid medical exemption verified by a doctor, everyone should get a vaccine. A public facing business has a duty to both its staff and customers to do their best to keep everyone safe. A vaccine mandate is the least they can be doing.
extrashotplease-4 points1y ago
You don’t understand. Some of these comments are suggesting people should be out of jobs because they don’t want to to get vaccinated. Which is a personal choice that doesn’t harm anybody but the person that’s choosing not to get vaccinated. Why should we be the only ones testing weekly if vaccinated partners can very much get anybody else sick as well? What’s the difference if the virus can be spread by anybody regardless of vaccination status? Vaccines don’t stop the spread and if some don’t want to get it why does that mean “good riddance”??
StormTheParade16 points1y ago
This isn't a "personal choice that doesn't harm anybody," if you are unvaccinated, you have an extremely higher risk at becoming infected, transmitting the virus, as well as potentially increasing the infection spread of any variants and mutations. Plus, you know... the death toll of the virus, the likelihood of getting long-covid, and any other lasting effects that could happen to you and/or anyone you possibly infect.
The vaccine does not fully stop the spread, no. No vaccine ever has ever been 100% effective, funnily enough. However, with the covid vaccine, your chances of infection *and* contagion are far far lower than if you are unvaccinated, and your chances of falling severely ill *should* you test positive are phenomenally lower than if you are unvaccinated.
Medical reasons are entirely valid. Skipping it because you don't believe in the virus, or think your immune system will just fight it, etc. all personal choice like that comes across as extremely selfish, especially if you are then going to insist you still go to work to be in close contact with people.
extrashotplease-1 points1y ago
Like you said I have a higher risk of being infected, not anybody else.
Transmitting the virus can still be done by anybody.
Not getting vaccinated because I don’t want to is not selfish.
ETA: you come across as selfish yourself if you believe everybody has to do things your way just because you think it’s correct. Not everybody has to fall in line just because thats what you feel is right.
Jasmir_15 points1y ago
You seem to be a victim of horrible misinformation. Vaccines limit the severity of symptoms and the likelihood to develop symptoms at all. This limits spread by coughing/running nose and surface contact. Vaccines also decrease the average length of your symptoms and contagious period which limits spread. Saying vaccinated and unvaccinated people pose an equal risk of transmission to their coworkers is plain wrong, and choosing to not get vaccinated for literally no reason is selfishly putting your coworkers, friends, and family at completely unnecessary increased risk.
Additionally, being vaccinated decreases the amount of severe infections in the general population and thus decreases the chance of the virus mutating further.
extrashotplease-3 points1y ago
I’m saying people should not shut other people out regardless of vaccination status. It is a personal preference you can’t tell me otherwise
Twippet-5 points1y ago
Thank you.
extrashotplease-2 points1y ago
My personal choice doesn’t harm anybody but myself if that’s how you truly want to see it. I don’t live without a care, I double mask anywhere I go, I’m very cautious, but I just don’t feel the need to get vaccinated. I’m healthy and don’t have a weak immune system, getting vaccinated is not something I plan on doing. I’m not putting anybody else at risk. The amount of people I see on a daily basis not wearing masks and are fully vaccinated are more harm to anybody.
dsc4216 points1y ago
This is incorrect, factually incorrect.
rudebii6 points1y ago
You aren’t being denied that right. But choices have consequences, and in this case, choosing not to be vaccinated is also choosing employment elsewhere.
I hear it’s a hot job market, so best of luck to those that choose the path of no vaccine.
[deleted]-5 points1y ago
People should have choice no matter what.
nicathor18 points1y ago
They do. They can choose to do the simplest act of precaution for the good of the community, or they can choose to be selfish and deal with the consequences of the community excluding them.
