Question about Short-Term Disability and Maternity Leave (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ksdg1214
So, if I can’t work as I get closer to my due date, can I use disability for that through Sedgwick and start maternity leave after my due date? Or does maternity leave start before I give birth? There’s no way I’ll be able to work all the way up until my due date and I wanted the six weeks paid after I give birth. 😩

Hey! So I actually just had to do this. We get a two week nesting period prior to your due date, then six weeks of paid time and up to twelve unpaid afterwards. Though this could also vary depending on where you live. I started dilating really early, so I needed to take short term disability in addition. You’d have to supplement with sick or vacation time if you’d like to be paid prior to birth. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I’m saving up all of my sick and vacation time which isn’t going to be much, unfortunately.
