Approached about becoming an SSV... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Shiroyu
So, for context, I started working at Starbucks in late August/early September. I picked up on it super quickly and genuinely enjoy my job. Recently, I was approached by my ASM and SM about becoming a shift supervisor which is something that I think could be a great opportunity for me. But I want some honest opinions and answers.

1. What are the pros and cons of going from barista to SSV?
2. I currently make $12/hr as a barista and average about 25 hours a week. I know it depends on the store and the area, but with the pay increase coming, is there a clear idea of how much SSVs will make by this summer?
3. Do you think it's worth it for someone who enjoys the environment and culture if Starbucks?

I know a lot of this subreddit loves to hate working for the siren, and honestly I get it, but I do enjoy it and am hoping to hear from others who feel the same.

Thank you in advance!

I personally enjoy being a SSV a lot, but I will say it’s not for those who can’t handle stress well. The way that you respond to a situation is what sets the mood for everyone else; You need to remain as calm as possible in extremely stressful situations, while also making sure to complete all of the shift supervisor tasks that only you can do. Everything falls on your shoulders, essentially. I personally love being a shift supervisor, but I’d advise you to be as prepared as possible going into it.

Is this for a drive thru or cafe? Cause me personally I love it for a cafe or even just a drive thru ok., but if it’s for a cafe and drive thru idk it is a lot of work it’s double what your doing but that’s just me since I have horrible anxiety lol
