Starbucks or Local coffee shop?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Coffeeaftersex
So I got a job offer at a local coffee shop, which seems decent, but at the same time I'm not sure if I want to leave starbucks yet. They start $8 per hour and the rest made up with tips equals to about $15 per hour. Right now I am making 12/ hour at sbux, but in the future $15, atleast what my SM told me.
Has ANYONE left starbucks for a local coffee shop? How was your experience? Is it worth it? This is a big move for me and I want to make sure I weigh out the pros and cons before making a decision.🙃
UPDATE: I decided to stay with the Siren, for now... lol. I believe the main reason for staying is because of the pay raise and my regulars & coworkers that I love.❤ Also, I don't believe most local shops offer free unlimited coffee during work hours.

Just putting in my two cents: it's easier to climb the ladder at sbux, and it looks better on job applications when you've got a career progression w/ a company

Good point! I'm almost hitting my 2 year mark so that will help my resume

I mean benefits are important, I was in the same situation but my partner needs health insurance. A small coffee shop is less likely to have a good benefits package. You gotta weigh all of your pros and cons.

i left starbucks for a local shop in july, and i've never looked back. i miss starbucks in some ways, but the stress and the customers wasn't worth the paycheck.

I worked at a local coffee shop, and it was the best time in my life.

It’s hard to say whether or not it would be worth leaving for a local shop. There’s no where to move up at a local shop if that’s important to you. Also as bad as major corporations are local businesses can be far far more parasitic. They can also be way better.
