no one is texting me back to take my shift- my dog is very ill and I don't know what to do .(self.starbucksbaristas)

I'm still very new to how starbucks works and I'm scheduled 1-830 today but the vet won't be able to see my puppy until 3 today. She has been throwing up frequently and is not drinking water. I don't know what to do and I'm freaking out. I was told to find coverage but I only have a few phone numbers and none are answering/responding. All my manager said was to find coverage so I asked if it was possible for me to come in after the vet saw her if everything was alright and she hasn't responded.
Update!!!! So my puppy is okay, the vet said they're pretty sure she probably ate something she wasn't supposed to but to keep an eye on her. They basically sent her home with pet pepto bismol so I've been giving her boiled chicken to help her upset tummy. I was too freaked out to find coverage, I texted one person , they said they couldn't (very understand I don't blame them). I still ended up coming in AFTER the appointment and dropping Sriracha (the puppy) off with my mom , it was a very slow night but I was still rattled. Thank you all for ur support and for telling me what I have the right to do in case this situation happens again :]

Its not your responsibility to find coverage if you call out, its the manager/shifts. You did your job by calling as soon as you knew. Your health/mental health is more important. Take care of your fur baby ❤

Is there a certain way to "offically" call out? I texted my store manager about it but idk if that will count :(

Both stores I worked at you called the store phone and let whoever is in charge know that you were calling out. Texting your manager if nobody answers is a good CYA

Call in to the store and say that you’re having a personal emergency and won’t be able to come in

Call the store and tell them you’re calling out today because your dog is sick and needs to go to the vet. Don’t let them guilt you into going in. If your puppy is really sick and not drinking water that could be serious. Please don’t let them guilt you into coming in and putting your dog on the back burner. It is also not your responsibility to find coverage, it’s the manager or shifts responsibility.

I had this happen before. My dog was throwing up blood before my shift so I called out and went to the vet and was told that my dog being sick was not a valid excuse. I said I wasn’t coming in regardless as I’ve lost a dog in the past to illness. Never give more info then you need to or they try and lie and scare you to come in. Well I ended up a quitting months later and heard from a friend that the manager called out because his dog was sick. Glad I got out. My dog was fine and was just a picky eater and kept throwing up from stomach acid build up leading to blood from it happening a few times. She only eats homemade food now because she’s a very picky husky.
