Unionize Ontario (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Alternative-Let-8360
Hi I’m a Starbucks barista from Ontario trying to unionize my Starbucks. Barrie is a relatively conservative area but I feel we can do it. I decided to reach out to a union when I was mistreated and terminated by my store manager for no apparent reason. The age demographic at my store is pretty young average age is probably 26. I need ways to show the other partners they are being mistreated and don’t have to put up with it, I want to show them they have options what would be the best ways to go about this I feel with a small push they would agree with me but I don’t know the best way to give that push. How have some of the other stores made there unsure staff pro union and what resources could I use to show them that the mistreatment can end if we push back. Please any advice would be very much appreciated

also wanna follow this thread, I contacted a union rep but where I live we don't really "do" unions (southeast US), so organizing could be a challenge for us.

At my store most of the partners are very pro-union and we had a few who were on the fence. The main concern is Corporate’s retaliation against us. I want to transfer in the Fall when I go to college and that was my main concern with agreeing to my store’s union. However, my committee head told me that if Starbucks tries to deny me a transfer then we as a union can fight against it.
Basically I would say ask them about their concerns if they have any and work with them on figuring out how those concerns can be addressed. If you go to Starbucks Worker’s United’s social media pages they have tons of information.
Best of luck with your endevour!
