Transgender surgery information (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ArialynnSilver
Does anyone know what the current policy on transgender surgeries is? Like what do they cover and how much of it? How long do you have to work to get it covered?

they cover literally everything 100% that isn’t already covered by a standard insurance policy.

these days, most insurance policies are still only top and bottom surgery for MTF/FTM

everything else included in the WPATH (anything you can dream of getting basically) is covered by the supplemental plan 100%, nothing out of pocket. for MtF this includes body feminization, FFS, electrolysis, and more. all you need is to have your health insurance through work, which requires working an average of 20 hours a week during the audit period, therefore qualifying for benefits, and then getting insurance through work. if you plan on getting a surgery covered by insurance typically (top or bottom surgery), or you have other needs for health insurance, are trying to get HRT through health insurance, have lots of appointments etc, then you’ll want to be selective with your plan. if you’re only getting this policy to pursue something like FFS, just go with the cheapest plan offered to you

sorry for the MTF specific examples here but that’s my experience so all i can really speak on as i’m unfamiliar with FTM medical transition

Not op but this was super helpful, I was deciding between silver and bronze plus because I didn't fully understand the supplemental plan thing. So if I got top surgery I'd have to meet the deductible then my insurance would pay 70% with silver, right? But things like gender-affirming body contouring or facial masculinization surgery would be 100% covered?

they’re completely changing it in october due to washington state law so to the best of my knowledge this benefit is essentially gone

I asked a transgender representative for the healthcare thing the same questions and
-its covered on all levels
-you have to average 20 hrs a week to qualify for healthcare
-they cover just about everything as far as transitioning goes

Buy the most expensive insurance plan you can afford. Look under what the plan Covers

Call pcc and ask, they’ll give you exact information to your questions, specifically what surgeries and all that.
