I used to say "this is a problem for the opener" every time I clopened. Didn't bode well for my relationship with myself lol
SpN09_mother_ofpigs17 points1y ago
Ahhh the fateful clopen.. the first time I used that word someone thought i sneezed. Like no I just hate my life 🤣
demigirlhailee7 points1y ago
literally just did this. got home 40 minutes ago, helped finish putting my daughter to bed, and now I have to wake up in 5 hours. mocha? not made. whips? not enough. trash? completely empty, including of bags. merchandise? not stocked. cups? on the counter, not in the holder.
I'm really going to hate myself tomorrow lol

I've watched shifts say "who the fucked closed last night?" And then realize it was them. Hilarious.

Some days your past self dirt roads your future self.

Ahh the memories! I always used to pride myself on a solid close down. Make sure everything was clean, packed away nicely, labelled correctly, clean bins, surfaces - everything.
To be fair most of my colleagues delivered a clean close down so made it easy for the morning shift.

I don’t always go it but after a particularly long or bad day “sounds like a morning problem” becomes my favorite word. The way I see it, my job is affected entirely by what others do earlier in the day. If someone screws up a lot, I’m stuck way after I’m supposed to be there. But if I don’t wipe down one counter or take out one bag of trash, morning still gets to show up and leave when they are supposed to. Yes it’s my job and I do it as much as I can as often as I can, but these days were understaffed and exhausted on night shift so if that makes me a bad person/coworker so be it. Also morning doesn’t do half the stuff they’re supposed to anyways so, at this point we’re even💀

Opposite with me My morning openers don't do dog water leaves us closers left with a mess
mama_bibi1 points1y ago

ghetto-skooter6 points1y ago
LOL i use to be a closer and said that ALL the time. now i’m an opener and there seems to be absolutely no standard for closes.
Comfortable-Plane9444 points1y ago
I always say “ that looks like a tomorrow problem”
Daliaveyani4 points1y ago
closing perfectly and then getting handed the shittiest shift from my mid, who is almost my best friend, I love her to death but oh my god baby delagate you don't have to do everything, more will get done if you delegate tasks to everyone skskndisnf <3
mama_bibi3 points1y ago
My manager said "sounds like the closers problem" and that's the moment i lost all respect for her. Because at my store that is the mental capacity of the opening crew. It's disgusting. And sad. I do both so I just looked at her and then she threw in im just kidding hahaha to which I did not laugh. I really wish we would all just work together. Which relates to all humans in general but for this specific post, at least at work.
UnhappyGarbage31761 points1y ago
Its all about respect. I wish we would all work together. Take pride in our store and the job we do. I love Starbucks. Left 9 years ago and applied 8 times in the past 9 years to get back in. Grass was not greener on the other side. Back in the day we didn't and couldn't leave without the store being perfect. Nowadays everyone uses covid as an excuse for laziness. But there is a lot of standing around with hands in apron and I at 42, run around these 18,19,20 year olds doing more than my fair share.
mama_bibi2 points1y ago
I relate to this so much. I'm about to be 35 and I work hard. Harder than most at my store and its really frustrating and tiring but I do it because that's the type of worker I am. I just wish more people had a sense of work ethic. Reguardless of how they feel about the job. And I agree, I really wish we would just work together. My old store had a great team and even though we didn't like the job we got it done and helped eachother. I miss that.

I decided a few weeks ago after the Debbie downers and negative Nellys really started eating me alive that I would go in, do the absolute best that I can do for any given day, sing, dance, make people laugh. Basically kick butt and go home. Life is a lot better doing that than getting caught up in peoples work ethic that I can't change. Empty boxes of cups, unboxed syrups, floors not washed. I will do it everyday. Don't let anyone steal your shine.
Plastic_Calendar_9472 points1y ago
I started as an opening barista and then when I got promoted to shift, I moved to nights. As a cafe store, there’s so many things the openers definitely have time to do. Our store is given 45 mins before to get everything done and I remember doing everything in 10 mins and standing there doing nothing for the rest of the time lol
UnhappyGarbage31761 points1y ago
Yeah I don't know how to brew 8 ice coffees and four daily coffees and do the pastry case and teas in 10 min....the brew time alone wouldn't allow this.
