Greenbean of two weeks here—worried about going too slow and getting in the way. Tips/Tricks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cxmsxut99
Hi! So just as my title says, I just started out (actually still in training) and I’m worried about getting in the way (specifically at the hot bar) because it’s taking me a bit to actually figure out ratios. I’ve found a couple of quizlets online which have been good practice, and my trainer is amazing, but I’m still really worried about keeping up.

So far it seems like the oven is the only actual thing I can do well, and I did a lot of oven orders on my last shift—but I want to try and improve at drinks as well!

What are some things I can do to stay out of other people’s way/make things go faster for myself? Thanks!

Youre going to be slow and In the way but don’t worry about it. You’ll learn everything eventually just like everyone else. Goodluck! Godspeed Spider-Man.

Get comfortable asking questions and asking for help. Your going to need it for awhile. It’s normal and okay. Everyone would rather you just ask what’s in something or let someone know your way behind on warming then for the SSV to come back from lunch and discover a disaster.

Just go at YOUR best pace. When I first started, I tried to do everything as quickly as my coworkers. It was a bad idea. I ended making huge messes (causing more work)and actually injured myself- not to mention how stressed out I felt. Then, I decided to go at my own pace. Just trying to do everything correctly the first time. It definitely helped, I got better and quicker as the weeks went on. I actually had an experienced partner tell me that she loves working with me because I seem so calm. You will get fast in it’s own time, I promise!
