The name tag of shame? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PotentialCranberry40
So at my store, for the past week or so, anytime certain shifts notice a barista missing a nametag, they force them to write their name on a sticky note. You will be wearing that sticky note for the rest of your shift, and if it falls off it is your duty to make it stay. They don't give us tape. Is anyone else's store doing this?

i hate that this is so funny
ruwoll 91 points 1y ago
we just keep spare name tags and chalk markers so you can make a new one for the day if you forget yours 🤷‍♀️
How-Inconvenient -39 points 1y ago
People don’t learn that way. But it’s basic courtesy nonetheless
Kindly-Wear-6290 77 points 1y ago
This seems like fun and games until a post it note ends up in a latte.
PotentialCranberry40 [OP] 14 points 1y ago
I've only had to do it once but I used a bulldog clip from my manager's office. I normally give them to other people if they have to do it because the sticky notes really don't stay.
accountedthrowaway5 49 points 1y ago
no… if we don’t have a nametag for that day no one says anything 🤨
CapableArtist123 16 points 1y ago
Yeah, literally my store manager forgets also. I always try to have a name tag but sometimes I forget also
willywankaz432 2 points 1y ago
Well you are technically required to wear a name badge and also it has to be on was side of your apron not in the middle.
thefoolwitch 18 points 1y ago
That’s funny honestly
maddawgg710 16 points 1y ago
Maybe just tell your manager to buy more name tags lmao 😂 that’s rough
Sufficient_Slide_190 16 points 1y ago
Im a green bean but at my store we keep chalk markers available. Some of my coworkers get very creative and we often make designs on them!
But thats such a weird practice. I get that dress code should be enforced but like…. Oof. Couldnt be me ☠️☠️
PotentialCranberry40 [OP] 4 points 1y ago
Yeah it's rough bud 😂
greenduffel 10 points 1y ago
it’s giving hazing lol

edit: /s
xCherryBombshell 10 points 1y ago
We keep them on the fridge with magnets lol no excuses here
PotentialCranberry40 [OP] 4 points 1y ago
The lockers are communal, but this is a great idea! Esp if they want to enforce it more. I'd like to suggest this at my store
xCherryBombshell 2 points 1y ago
Definitely!!

Lmao at my store name tags are only passed out when dm or higher management make their way through
MiaLedger 8 points 1y ago
Not mine. I've been around for nearly a year and haven't been told a thing about name tags. Idek how to go about getting one.
Arielheart91 7 points 1y ago
Use paperclips
PotentialCranberry40 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
The one day I forgot my nametag, I went to the back and got a bulldog clip lmao
sheep_heavenly 6 points 1y ago
I'm dead. I low key love this, only because it's so dumb and silly. y'all should have extra name tags though, would make it a funny prank and then a real fix rather than something that looks pretty silly the whole shift.

The easier and more personal option imo is to just get the aprons embroidered. Most shops will do it for $1 a letter. Now I can't forget 🤣

Never occurred to me when I started but of late I’ve been questioning whether I owe customers my real name. I don’t think so. I may write something different on my tag. Partners can call me my real name. I doubt partners will even notice that I wrote something different on my tag. I do manage to always have one
OneRoseDark 5 points 1y ago
This is hilarious. No, but I have one barista who has like 5 nametags that she always says are "in her car" or "on her other apron" so one time I wrote her name on a post-it and paperclipped it to her apron. She always has her nametag now so I guess it worked?
Binx_da_gay_cat 5 points 1y ago
I do that too. Laundry day? I strip them into my center console so I could run out on a slow point. I do that with my pins too. And the pens and sharpies.
Haemmur 4 points 1y ago
Do you have your 27 pieces of flair?

If you need tape you can always use the sticker tape from the bar. It works pretty well.
pinkshadedgirafe 3 points 1y ago
Speak with your SM about having your name embroidered onto your apron. ALL of my 7 aprons had it embroidered. Never had to worry about name tags ever again.
CardiographicDuck 3 points 1y ago
I genuinely don’t understand the obsession with name tags.
Zealousideal-Star448 3 points 1y ago
Seems like a food safety hazard, what happens if it falls in a mocha? Idk if that glue on the back of the sticky note is good safe. Not to mention this sounds like hazing, call your district manager if your store manager is in on this. The reason we use chalk markers on the the name plates is so if it does fall somehow and is somehow consumed it won’t kill the person cuz it’s just chalk and rubbing alcohol.
PotentialCranberry40 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
I did not know that about the chalk. But yeah they don't stay on lol. Normally I give the other unfortunates (I only forgot mine once) a clip to keep it on. It does seem a bit strange to me as well though.

Sharpie meet apron
marvelmanda 2 points 1y ago
We honestly don’t really care about name tags soooo
Castiels_Bees 2 points 1y ago
We used to switch name tags. Good luck getting us in trouble. Even the manager did it.
JavaWasp 2 points 1y ago
Noooooooo!
aldrif-odinsdottir 2 points 1y ago
We don't have name tags
ssheinman2013 2 points 1y ago
Nametags are a hazard to partner well being
nicathor 2 points 1y ago
How are yall forgetting your nametags? Do you take them off every night or something??
PotentialCranberry40 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
We're encouraged to take our stuff home and the lockers are communal. My manager takes the aprons from the back home and washes them for extras if we forget so there's not a great place to leave personal things for a long time. Someone recommended magnets to keep them on a fridge though so I'm going to suggest that.
incandescentbub 2 points 1y ago
Ive never worn my nametag i lost it the first day i got my apron
xerox-of-a-xerox 2 points 1y ago
seems like a strange and twisted form of torture that i hate but have to admire
Toomanyboringpeople 2 points 1y ago
There was a short period of time where we used blank cup stickers but it didn’t last long and it was only when the SM was around 😂
drinkliquidclocks 1 points 1y ago
Lol no but I love it. Your name tag is part of your uniform, it drives me crazy when people ‘forget’ lol
wobbysobby 1 points 1y ago
They can’t be allowed to treat you like children. I would refuse to play along if I were you.
Malevolent_barnacle 1 points 1y ago
That's fucking hilarious
kristis3233 1 points 1y ago
