If I remember right, the add shots price up to the next drink size until you’ve exceeded the number of shots in a venti size.

No it's adding the difference between the sizes for Americanos until you hit a Venti. Otherwise it would be cheaper to order a larger size in a smaller cup with less water to get more shots, which would be pretty crazy.
Occasionally the prices add up properl when ringing things in differently. Not often, but they did think out pricing for extra shots in Americanos.
