Does anyone else’s store run like shit when the manager is on the floor, but works amazing the second they leave to do office work or end shift altogether? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Old barista here; but when I was there the store (crazy busy drive thru and indoor cafe) would usually run pretty smooth, during rush it would get crazy but the shift leads understood that sometimes a barista can’t handle the stress of being on bar or doing drive thru in peak, (because humans) so they would have them do dishes or whips etc, and they would hop on that position for a while then switch it out. But whenever our manager was in shift lead or just a barista; everything fell to crap because they decided to throw the green bean of 4 weeks on bar during peak and the girl who honestly can’t handle anyone being snappy at here like they are in drive through, so everything explodes…
I’ve noticed that the store still has this problem, drive thru time are up from a 10 min usual peak to 30 when she’s on the floor.

Is this just my store?

Nope, not alone... They forget their skills are labor management, not day to day floor deployment.

I have baristas literally deflate the second he can be heard in the store. Here comes hyperfocus on some minor detail of what he thinks is important that day at the expense of customer satisfaction while he simultaneously won't coach partners directly. How does that work? Stressfully, and incredibly demoralizing.

This!!! Omg she would literally have an ant in her pants about one thing and would side eye if it wasn’t done.

Saying managers have labor management skill is a generous assessment of many managers I've had.
