cows milk is the expiration date on the container, alternative milk (non dairy) is 7 days after you open it and it is refrigerated

It depends on where you are, some states required a best by day and some require a sell by date. The milks we get are distributed to two different states so they have both a sell by and a use by date. It really confuses new baristas

We go by sell by date since it’s very unpredictable how much time is left after the sell by date. Some types of milks go bad quicker than others and a lot of other factors go into it like temp in transport ect. Starbucks always wants to error on fresher safer side so we can avoid issues.
